how to change your Avatar to a picture and size limits?

I was thinking about changing my Avatar to a picture of myself and can't figure out how to do it. Also need to know the size limit as it is 1.2 Meg. Any help would really help.

To get to the place to upload an avatar, click on your name above your current avatar.

On the top right, click on "Settings". Go down to "My Settings" and click on "Edit Avatar" then you will see the place to upload your avatar.

I believe the avatar has not only file size limits, but also pixel dimension limits.

The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 83.5 KB

Get a photo editor (paint.net is free, so is Gimp ... which is infinitely better IMO) and crop then resize the image.
