how to tell

How can you tell if it is mica or gold on or in quartz...I heard you could use peroxide to tell...said if it did not fizzle then it was gold...does mica fizzle?

Two common "fools Gold" stones are mica & Pyrite..

A question about mica...if a stone with "gold" colored things is soaked in iron out and it is mica will it change colors or stay the "gold" color?

I have been told if you take a pocket knife and scrap it softly and it flakes then it isnt gold. I tried it last week and sure enough it will flake out. I thought I found some gold but it wasnt. Now if it doesnt flake then you should keep it. The other way to tell is put in in a shadow (I use mine) and if it isnt still yellow then you know it isnt gold. That works just as good. I find pyrite and mica on the rocks here in Ga and always am hoping it is gold but so far I am still gold poor. Keep looking and good luck!, rock
