How do you guys find arrow heads? Turn over rocks? Dig holes? Climb cliffs? I see alot of really nice stuff here. I have never hunted arrow heads or stone axes or anything. I do have a axe head that my step son picked up somewhere. I wish my metal detector would pick them up but you know how that goes.

Curious because stuff like this intrigues me.

I do dig Quartz crystals. Same kind of method?

I live in upstate SC so I know Oconee county would be a good place to go, just don't know how to go about it.

Thanks

A lot of walking and looking. Check out farm fields, after the farmer works the field, and it does help to look after a little rain shower. It is also productive to check out local creeks and river gravel bars. Good Luck!

Thats about it. Main sources of water. Plowed fields after a rain, near water. You will find that fields no where near water produce less points. Natural shelters. Good Luck

don't look in natural shelters

I grew up in Oklahoma, and I mainly just look for places I would have lived. I've turned up several undocumented sites that way. Walk and keep your eyes open, look for rocks that don't belong. Where two creeks run together is great, because that guaranteed a reliable water source. We went out and did some field studies, and there's evidence of prehistoric human occupation in every mile of every water tributary in Western Oklahoma. Your detector won't work in those. However, we do have historic occupation sites, and the location of most of those are still within memory. They had a tendency to favor an area where the river made a big loop, as they were enclosed on three sides. Good place to detect, because the Kiowas and Comanches were into trade with and stealing from the Spanish back to the 1700's. Don't know much about your area. But research helps, and keep your eyes on the ground.

I sure appreciate the info. I'll keep my eye's extra open when I'm out heading to the streams to hunt gold and when i'm going through any fields. Thanks again.

rginn,
I do know a couple places where the creek/stream curves around and three sides have water. A place where i deer hunt. Hmmmm.... I can't wait run across some of the things you guys do.

SOHIO why not look in natural shelters? Rock shelters are great and if you have permission and do it correctly then why not? Should we leave it to never be found or appreciated?
