I went after work today to the spot that keeps producing killer finds and I think I topped all of them!! I found the eagle button first, and then about 40 feet away the sword handle was in 3 pieces about 10 feet apart from each other. Rang up a huge loud 95 on the Deus, thought it was a big nail til I dug it up. Would love some help on the ID of the sword. I really enjoy all of your finds and I hope you enjoy mine. Going back in the AM!! :)IMG_20160527_195043.webpIMG_20160527_195242.webpIMG_20160527_195206.webpIMG_20160527_195154.webpIMG_20160527_195143.webpIMG_20160527_195137.webpIMG_20160527_195126.webpIMG_20160527_195122.webpIMG_20160527_195113.webpIMG_20160527_195105.webpIMG_20160527_195054.webpIMG_20160527_195247.webp

Can't help with an id, but gotta say it's a fantastic find! Congrats

Very cool. The heart shaped guard sure is indicative of some Rev War swords I have seen.

man you flat out killed it!

Whoa, that sword handle is a gorgeous find. Big congrats on not being at work, instead out digging great stuff!

Very interesting and historic find! Maybe it belonged to a pirate! :treasurechest::coins::icon_pirat:

Hey Dirtstalker!! Alan and I went back this morning for about 3 hours and hammered it. Alan found a complete Rev War trigger guard but we didn't find much else, trouble is the crap is getting so thick to fight through.....we need to keep an eye on that spot because they have started to select cut the bigger trees. I think they are getting ready to clear it for yet another neighborhood. As soon as they start pushing dirt we are golden!! That is the same area where I found the silver fob seal and a ton of other stuff!! :)

I bet...
BUT...
Let me remind you... Errr... let me restart...
First...
This is a banner no matter what.
EVEN... if I am "off" on the ID.

There are so many "types" of swords... so many years produced... so many makers... so many countries of origin...
Swords were like keys... almost everyone had one at one time.
At least every man anyway.
During conflicts / armed service... you were "naked" without one.
This sword DEF looks the part.
BUT...
I am no sword expert.
I just payed attention to a lot of em over the years.
Anyway...
My point is...
Banner regardless... Rarely is a sword found... let alone one of that suspected age.
And the parts "are there" as far as I am concerned.

I will add this though...
This sword IMO is extremely rare.
Rare to find one for sale...
Rare to find one that sold...
And rarer to find one in the friggin ground. heh

Super stellar find in the "low country".
Hats off.
