Hunted my brother's yard today and cleaned out some wheaties.

My brother wanted to see how the detector worked so I started pulling some nails out of the yard which is good for the dog... I didn't think the house was old enough to have any older coins though. It looks like a 1970's house at the oldest but I ended up pulling a lot of old mems and 7 wheaties. No silver though... but I'll be back!

Nice ..............I wouldn't know what to do if I found that many coin targets. I usually find all the junk ...... my dad calls me Fred Sanford when I come home and empty out my junk.

Anyway makes for good practice. Wheaties are always nice to get.

Back in the early eighty's a neighbor down the street offered to let me and my son hunt his property. The house was built in the early seventy's so like you I didn't hold much hope for finding any silver. Much to our surprise the yard turned out to be a gold mine for silver coins, both front and rear yard.

After talking to my neighbor who was in his seventy's I found out that the lot his house was built on was a vacant lot when he was a kid and the neighborhood kids played baseball on the lot. His house was built on a concrete slab so very little of the ground was disturbed. We managed to find dozens and dozens of silver coins and rings as well as a couple gold rings.

I guess you should never judge a piece of property by the house that sets on it. You just never know what you will find.

A few years later we had an opportunity to hunt a House that belonged to my wife's cousin. The house was built in the 50's so I thought we might find some silver but nothing old. To our surprise we started finding older Mercury dimes, early Washington Quarters and a number of Barbers, we also found a couple early Walking Liberty Halves. We were never able to determine what the property was used for before my wife's cousin built his house , but again the age of the house did not determine the age of the coins we were to find. I always love surprises.

Thanks for the comment RCG - Your absolutely right. You never know what is there until you try it.

HH!
