my son and I hunted an area where a local guy said his neighbor used to hunt in the 70's and found lots of CW relics. A 1864 map of the Union and Confederate position show a Union division headquarters a mile south of our hunt area. So we figured a good site.
My son found what looked like old horse tack. CW? who knows. I found a small flat button (next to the modern penny). CW era? who knows.

My son was hunting with an Ace 250. I was using my Nox 800 and found the flat button about 5" down. Gave a nice signal.

Any help on identifying the horse tack and flat button as civil war era or not will be helpful. Ground was moist after 5 days of rain, but drained and not muddy.

Thanks

The piece in your hand is part of a snaffle bit.
