I was always curious what it would be like detecting at a ski resort. This past weekend my wife and I went to Seven Springs in PA. I packed the detectors just in case. On Saturday with about an hour and a half of daylight left, we hit the beginners slope. I didn't choose the tougher slopes figuring most of the people on those had snow suits on, and it would be jeans with pockets on the beginners. After about an hour, we quit digging penny signals and only dug silver. By the time we left, we were only digging quarter hits because we were so tired. We finished with 32 quarters and a small handful of penny's and dimes. Now I'm going to go to a few slopes nearby to try to get permission to hunt those also. Anyone else have experience with ski slopes?

it just goes to show that you can always find new hunting spots.

It's good near the lodge too where they take off the gloves. Around the ski tow. Anywhere they would stop an rest. Look for trees with bark missing and hunt there............. Not to many pull tabs on the slopes, so dig pull tab signals for rings.

And don't forget the parking lot area.

I've hunted a lot of ski slopes, usually by sight, and my best 1/2 day netted about $130. Problem with ski slopes and detectors is that there's TONS of trash.. much of it being aluminum. ..Willy.

I've had some great luck on ski hills; my best find was a nice 14K ring with 7 diamonds (pic below)! Find the older ski hills, you may find silver. I once detected a ski hil on (no closed) Loring AFB in Maine...don't think anyone ever hit it; I found a handfull of silver including one Ben Franklin and hundreds of clad coins...very little trash! The ring was found last summer while on vacation in Red River NM...also found a lot of quarters too. Lot's of trash near the lodge so be ready to dig thru it...not so much on the slopes.

Best time to go is right after snowmelt.

I just located an old skihill in AK and found the old chairlift that hasn't been used for many years...medium trees are now growing everywhere...can't wait for spring breakup!

Good luck!
Angie
