hunting at lake beaches ?????????????????

Well that depends, type of lake, constant level, drys up, changing areas, grass park lot, dirt?or where they lay and catch rays, near consession stands.
one of the best is a roped off swimming area, where swimmers grab the rope and rings fall off, or float rental area, near launch zones, where they play with their rental, docks at dry time. Vista points where the would make a wish. Just a few to mention, good luck!

Like beeper said, about anywhere people have been. Some areas see more people than others and many people spot some sparkle in the grass and pick it up. But what they don't is for us to find. Just be neat and don't make a mess and take all trash you retreive with you. I even like to use a cloth to set dirt on if I have to dig a plug so I can put it all back in the hole. I won't dig a plug durning the dry season either since I hate seeing all those lil circles of dead grass at a park.

i like starting at the water edge ,

Every inch of the sand. Around here we can't MD the dirt in the parks but can do all the sand we want. Just make sure if you're in a city or county park that you know what the rules are there.
Along the boardwalk and pier should be good.

If you are going to hunt in the water, be sure to cover your holes so nobody can step in them. I've seen a few swim areas put off limits to detectorist because of damage left on the bottom. You think wave action will cover it, but not so in fresh water as the waves aren't that big. Moms play with the small kids in the very shallow water and that is where the $$$ rings are along with lots of trash so don't use much discrimination. Tell us how it went.

I must agree with Beeper & Sandman on locations to hunt, I also have had great success hunting in water crotch deep for rings, it seems men seem to hang out there swishing their arms/hands in the water trying to decide if its worth going from walnuts to peas in the cold fresh water lakes. LOL H.H.:-)

Here's a handy tip. Imagine there are no ropes, no markers and no lifeguards, imagine just people swimming along the shore line. When most MD'ers go into the water they gravitate to the center of the "visible" area, however the best areas are usually those beyond or outside of the ropes. I know, I've proven it repeatedly.

I've found some clad $$ in the dry sand and a cheaper man's watch, but my best areas have been in the shade of trees close to the beach or the shade on the beach itself. Older people like to sit in the shade and drop lots of things. Also if there are any picnic benches close to the sand. These have been productive. Good luck

I do Lake Tahoe quite a bit and have been sucessful around the pier area for coins. In CA the property owners on the lake have property rights down to the high water mark and the rest is public property. Cold water has a tendancy to shrink the fingers so rings fall off easly. That also goes for toe rings. The other areas that work well are anywhere along the upper bank that people lean aginst, also like everyone else says, anywhere people spread a blanket. I go to the beaches during the holidays and scope out the most used areas, come back day after and work them hard.
If you are up this way let me know and we can go detecting.
Good luck and keep us informed.
