I saw some people mentioning the South Mountain, so I took a drive out there with my girlfriend today. I ran into a fellow detector (Steve), who gave us some tips. Specifically, he suggested that we search off the beaten path....and so we did.

I found a few coins. Not a whole lot. One wheat penny, which was pretty trashed, and I think it's from 1944. Will need more cleaning to know for sure.

In the woods, I did find three buttons. I've posted close ups of them. The signals were not sharp, rang up like can tabs, but I dug them anyway. Pretty neat. Any info on possible dating would be great! None of them seem to have any writing on them (as far as I could see). Two of them are bent a little.

Thanks for the advice, Steve! I wish that I had asked if you were on these boards. If you are, please send me a message! Maybe we could hunt together!

your buttons look early. I would say 1790's to 1820's or so. nice digs. keep digging the area as more might be found.
