Cleaning up the beaches didn’t turn up anything great, the park had lots of key charms and the scout camp gave up gold

DAY 1
I went to the park closest to my home to try and work on the ballfield where I found the oldies last time. Unfortunately the guys showed up to mow the grass just as I got there so I did some walking around high traffic areas and the tot lot. In 5 hours of swingin the CZ21 I found 74 coins with a face value of $5.99, a Canadian penny, a cheap earring, a game tab, a name tag, lots of key charms, can slaw, foil, one aluminum bottle cap and 21 tabs.

I have found a batch of the key charms in the past and did a pretty good job of getting them all recovered. These were all in the mulch on the tot lot and they were on top or just under the surface so they are fresh losses. I don’t know why people keep bringing them to the park, but they do a good job of leaving them behind.

DAY 2
I went to a park swimming area to cover the beach. I cover the swimming area every year, frequently twice a year but I haven’t done the beach thoroughly in at least 10 years so I found a lot more than I was expecting.

I spent 5.5 hours swingin the ATpro and found 27 coins with a face value of $1.77, some jewelry, fishing swivels, the end of a fishing pole, a selfie stick retainer, aluminum bottle cap grippers, tabs, a key, 37 sinkers, foil, and bottle caps.

Unfortunately the jewelry is all cheapie stuff.

DAY 3
I didn’t finish the beach on day 2, so I decided to go back and see what the other half of the Beach held. I spent 5 hours swingin the ATPro and found 12 coins with a face value of $0.65, a selfie stick retainer, jewelry, parts of fishing lures, fishing swivels, tabs and pieces of tabs, 33 sinkers, a toy car and foil.

Lots of miscellaneous bits of interest, but nothing good. The best finds was probably the earring back shaped like a butterfly. I have found hundreds of earrings backs and this is a first for me.

DAY 4
I took the trip up to the newer scout camp to try my luck. I worked in one of the camp staff areas and covered a section I haven’t done before and then redid another part of the staff area looking for new losses.

I spent 6.5 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 145 coins with a face value of $7.11, 7 camp tent pegs, 2 adjustable aluminum tent poles, a brass fitting, an aluminum carabiner, a cap gun (my first whole one in 24 years of detecting), stainless dinner ware, a ring, a dog tag type scout pendant, an activity pin, 2 ace bandage clips, a zipper piece, a fired bullet, a Nintendo game cartridge, a stainless watch back, a sinker, 19 tabs, melted foil from the campfires and 1 pencil end.

The ring is the winner. It was about 3 inches down about 2 inches from the edge of a permanent tent floorboard. I have covered that section before, but I missed it. Probably because it was so close to the floorboards and the nails in the boards do cause a reaction from the detector. Glad I was going low and slow. It is 14k, weighs 4.1 grams and has a real nice design. It has an inscription and a date so I believe it is a wedding band. The date is in the late 1980s so it could have been lost a long time ago as most camp staff members are younger. The camp ranger is reaching out to staff and will post on the camp Facebook page to see if we can locate the owner. We might get lucky. So far I have returned 21 class rings and 19 pieces of other jewelry. Maybe this will be number 20.

A non detector find was this half of a beaver’s lower jaw.

DAY 5
I went to one of the state park beaches to the west. I detect the water every year shortly after Labor Day and then the beach a month later. I have found gold and silver in the past and was hoping for luck as always.

I spent 4.5 hours swingin the ATPro and only found 11 coins with a face value of $0.96, a little jewelry, part of a fishing lure, a fancy set screw, 2 washers, 3 small aluminum knockouts, a .22 shell, sinkers (as always), a batch of tabs and a big toy car.

The jewelry isn’t much, a piece of a ring, a KING WILL tungsten carbide ring, 2 beads and an earring back. The broken piece of a ring looked good and sure enough it is a very heavily tarnished piece of a silver ring.

NON DETECTOR FINDS
I found a quarter on the street during a walk and a quarter in the coin return of a bait machine in front of one of the stores during our walk so the walk was productive.

Any week with a gold find is a good one, thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.
