Firstly, the park ranger staff here is super friendly when it comes to metal detecting. Permits are required at the park, but I had no issue at all obtaining one. Detecting anywhere in the park is allowed with exception to the fenced in lighthouse property area.

I was visiting with my non-detecting wife so time was limited. And had a good time for the short visit. I would have enjoyed a bit of wooded hunting, so that’ll have to wait for next time. I was also Shocked at the .50 cal bullets, but later learned this island was used for practice during WWII.
