I have been out hunting a small area about 200 yards from my house. In between some cow pastures there is a little area with maybe 20-30 trees on it. I was thinking that this is some location where people might have been hiding some stuff. What I actually found was lots of trash - aluminum and such. But - amongst all the trash I found a shotshell butt. In general not very spectacular - you are right. BUT - this was a pinfire shotshell. In the early days when muzzleloaders became "out of style" weapons people were seeking for a faster way to reload and shoot. The idea of a cartridge was born. But how to set it off? The last generation muzzleloaders used percussion caps instead of flintlocks to set off the charge inside the barrel. Now these percussion caps/primers were located inside the cartridge butt and got hit by a firing pin which was placed right through the side of the cartrige butt. So the old style of hammer which was hitting the percussion cap before was still in place just hitting the firing pin now. It was a 16 cal. but what I find strange about it is that there are 2 hearts stamped on it. Does it mean were are shooting rabbits with love
