Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

Well, the weekend has come to an end for me. I have had a great time with Dad out in the woods fighting the skeeters & briars. Found a lot of interesting stuff. I'll probably post other pics once I make it back home. I was hoping to find a button or a bullet while I was here. Got half of my wish anyway. I found an old .22 calibur bullet. Dad found the button! He'll probably post it later. I found a really old Mexican Spur, some kind of dagger or knife handle, lots of square nails, a really neat decorative floral piece, and lots of other miscellaneous items. It was really fun exploring through the woods. We even had an encounter with a herd of wild hogs tonight! It had to have been hilarious seeing me running across the pasture in white rubber boots hollering "Big Pig, Big Pig, Big Pig!!!" I'll tell you...you can really move when you want to! I had a great time and hate that I have to go back home tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get to come back before much longer and get out there again with him!

NICE HUNT.

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

Great relic hunt!!!

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

the top left hand item looks like a door to a wood burning stove.

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

Good luck in finding more!

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

Top right looks like a small horseshoe.

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

Lot's of nice relics. There's got to be some old coins there!

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

Thanks for the comments. There have been some really old coins as well as Republic of Texas military buttons found around this site. Not by me of course, but by my dad. He's the pro at finding all the "good" stuff. He found a button about 2 feet from where I was digging for a signal I got. Not the fancy type, but a flat one. The horseshoe looking item is a ring of some sort that's been stretched out some how. Yes, I think that the upper left hand piece is part of a wood-burning stove.

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

Great bunch of relics. Looks like you did your fair share of digging.

P.S,.
Oh by the way, I bet your dad has dug his share of junk finds also. Keep hunting,
you will be finding goodies just like your dad and hunting with your Dad, Priceless!

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

I rarely if never find coins in my military diggin haunts.

I don't think that's a horseshoe - more likely riggin' from a wagon's triple tree or something.

The nails are great... good on ya for keeping them!

Nice hunt and finds with your Dad! HH, Mike

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

The site's not being hunted for coins. If one is found, it's by chance, since there have been old homesites in the area in the past. There's a lot of history here and the finds will be displayed so that others can enjoy it and learn about the history of this area. Not a lot of folks know about the history around here and are very surprised that such activity occurred this close to where they live. I'm proud of my dad for getting out there and doing what he enjoys. He loves to research the stuff and share what he finds out about it.

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

Looks like you nailed it .... WTG great finds there...

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

WHOA!!!
I have a nail exactly like the one third from the left on the second row!

Small world.

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

Great hunt looking forward to another.

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

Its great when you can spend time with family doing something that you really like. I plan to introduce my dad to this hobby when I go down to visit him next summer.

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

square nails means only one thing.

They were unpopular in highschool and no one wanted to dance with them at the prom?

Re: Hunting...Young & Old Rivers

I see some square cut nails 1800's and possibly some rosehead nails. The rosehead nails go back to the 1700's. They are the nails that sort of come to a point on the head and have what looks like four angled sides sloping from that point on the head. They were hand made. You may have a older site mixed in there. Keep hunting it and best of luck!
