What a beautiful day ! 70 degrees here in Maine today! so afterwork I hit the ( Use at your own risk site ! ) 10 more wheaties today and the one 1944 quarter ! I always tell people who ask that I get a silver for about every 10 coppers I dig ! I don't count clad or copper memorials ! It worked out right today !! I also found a copper Slug the exact same size and thickness as a Quarter. It was deeper than the 40's coinage I thought I had an obscure old copper ! But it is as smooth as a babys butt ! Thanks for looking ! MaineRelic

That is a pretty accurate ratio whether it's 20th century or 18th century, unless you live in southeast Virginia, then it's 10 silvers to 1 copper for colonial coins - LOL

Some guys just have all the fun

I wish my ratio was that good. Love silver, anytime, anyplace!

Jeff, Actually I have done a little better than 10 to 1 copper to silver up here. I have dug 44 Spanish plus a 1797 US Dime, so say 45 early silvers. I don't have a an exact count of my coppers, but counting Large Cents and Half Cents, I doubt it exceeds 300. From what I've seen from Bill Dancy, Stan, you and Josh, I think the ratios are almost opposite dowb there, like I said, 10 silvers for every copper!

If I counted Large Cents I think the copper total would be around 35 since I've been here..... but colonial copper to colonial silver is about 1:2 for me.. (Charles II farthing, KG II farthing, 4 KGII halfpennies, 3 VA halfpennies & 19 silver)

Great to see your post!
nice Silver & Copper!!
Don't those slugs get ya goin..
Dug a gilded brass one the size of a silver dollar out of the mud one day.
thought I had a major jackpot, till I rinsed it.
yours looks like a convex shape, is it flat ?
Great digs! keep 'em Comin! :icon_thumright:

Never counter total copper to silver ratio, but my wheats to silver has been pretty consistent 4:1 for a few years.

Here in Ohio it's 10 silver to one copper..............if that ::) I'm sure you find more in Mine as Maine was settled first. Keep at it and be safe. Oh, better hurry. Winter is closing in on us. :icon_sunny:

same here, my ratio this yr is about 4.5 wheats to every silver

Nice coin. I love finding silver. As far as that CSA buckle I found. It was a yard find. Some guy brought it home from the war. You never know when some Yankee brought one home and lost it in someone's yard. Keep hunting you never know.

Good Luck

You guys are what make it fun to read this forum! My ratio is more like 10 tabs to one clad...... :(

We have a TON of coppers too.....I've dug 31 for the year so far :laughing9:

Your lucky, we need 50-70 Bronzes for every 1 Roman Silver

So I have been shooting this one place quite often and I have got 213 wheats And 36 silver coins . so 1.4 for every 10 wheats . I think my math is right . mabe not. I am sure someone will correct me .Nice for you. All I know is they do not drop wheats or silver any more so I am glad when I find either .
