To get to the point of the metal detecting day, I got a signal...looked at my meter...noticed it read an "E" on "Quarter"...pinpointed it...chiseled out 3 inches...stuck pinpointer in hole...saw a glinting edge...said to Zeus, "It's a coin, and it looks like silver"...retrieved coin...noticed it was a 1914 Barber quarter...said to Zeus, "It is a f&&&ing Barber quarter."

Yeah, folks, this artifact was found in a Colonial farmfield that is about 300 yards away from the defunct amusement park. My uncle found a Coronet cent in the area about two weeks ago, so now you know my frustration. >:(

Kyle Thank God its not the 1901s that you bonked. 3 for 3, you got something against Barber qtr's?

I am fairly certain that the words, "It's a f@$&%* barber quarter" will ever come from my mouth. It's silver, most of us on here would be quite pleased with such a find.

For a comment like that zoy, may your colonial field produce only clad from now on!! If anyone knows his hunting location, go sprinkle zinc lincoln cents all over! That should fix him!!

My Spanish half reale was actually dug where I was pulling wheaties from the 50's, and for the area I was hunting, I can say yes I was pissed until it popped out. I feel your pain......oh so slightly.....very very slighlty....maybe in my big toe or something...

Zoy, bummer about the scratch, but let not your heart be troubled... there was a Gibbon in the Major Leagues!

Hello Kyle,

You found a beautiful American silver coin that many md'ers hope to find some day. Please look on the bright side, buddy, you gotta be somewhat relieved that the date of that quarter wasn't a 1901 S. ;D

You are a hardcore datectorist! Chiseling the ground to recover a find is hardcore buddy!! Love your diehard datecting style. ;)

May you strike spanish wilver on your next outing!!

Dan, thanks for the reply.

After finding some non-glazed, 1700s pottery nearby, I thought for sure that it would be a copper. It still is a pretty cool find, even though I gave "her" a nice stabbing on the jib. :D

Hey Kyle happens to all of us...You target in on the coppas and wilvers of the colonial prefrence only to dig a coin NOT on the menu :'(

Still she looks great !
I have dug Barbers in coppa rich acres and felt the disappointment...even brief anger , WHYYYYY ?? ??? :'( ???

Still ya got out and got some time in on the new year , which is more then I can say :(

D. ;)

Derek, I guess that copper is just around the metal detecting corner. The temperatures will be in the 40s this week, so my uncle and I will probably seek permission for a new Colonial-era site.
