To get to the point of the metal detecting day, I got a signal...looked at my meter...noticed it read an "E" on "Quarter"...pinpointed it...chiseled out 3 inches...stuck pinpointer in hole...saw a glinting edge...said to Zeus, "It's a coin, and it looks like silver"...retrieved coin...noticed it was a 1914 Barber quarter...said to Zeus, "It is a f&&&ing Barber quarter."

Yeah, folks, this artifact was found in a Colonial farmfield that is about 300 yards away from the defunct amusement park. My uncle found a Coronet cent in the area about two weeks ago, so now you know my frustration. >:(

P.S. Folks, check out the extreme "deck mark" on the qwatta. :D

Damn Kyle, the Metal Detecting Gods were fooling with you today ;D ;D ;) ;) That's okay, sometimes that happens though while Treasure hunting America ;) ;) ;) The detecting Gods have to get a kick out of fooling us with Barbers sometimes!!! ;) ;) Thas why you had to slap Barber baldheaded! :) :D ;D ;) ;)

That's what happens when we dig too many Colonial coppas in a short amount of time.....The God's screwball us...

Yeah, Kevin, I thought it was going to be a Spanish two reales. Barbers are still cool to find once in a while, but when it is in a farmfield, it kind of troubles you.

I definitely thought it was going to be a copper, but the silver-like look had me hoping for a two reales. :D

A very sad Gibbon indeed Zoyster. In one hand you would like to see a nice Spanish coin but in the other hand it seems an American one keeps showing up fighting for our attention. Sounds to me like another Spanish / American war . OOOOOOOOOOOF !

Kyle, I know most could not understand your disappointment, I do , been there many times and must learn to accept that your find was still a good find. Any silver, and especially a silver quarter is a successful hunt. Besides, what a bonus that in the middle of January you got the chance to metal detect, don't think that is normal for your area. Consider it a bonus hunt coin. :)

Yes, Reale would have been nice. That just isnt right! I KNOW YOUR ANTICIPATION was HIGH!!!!

Yo Zoy,

Good to see you getting out in the frigid northeast winter. At least is wasn't a clad Washington....that would have really sucked. Look at it this way... It's not like you were going to sell the coin and the deck really doesn't look that bad so no harm no foul in my book. That being said, a 2 reale would have been nice.. :D ;D Keep the passion high brother.

Hmmm...a metal detectorist starting The Spanish/American War II. :D OOOOOOOOF.

Kyle,
It could have been worse. It could have been a Chuck E Cheese token staring at you. :o I still haven't found a Barber quarter, so that would have been a GREAT find for me. ;) I do understand your frustration though.
Has your brother taken up knitting or something? I'm not seeing any old coppa from that boy lately. ;)
Congrats,
MM

Don, it was great to just be out detecting in January. The time will come when a Spanish silver will make my analog "blurp." :D

As I was sweeping along in the Colonial field, kind of like John Walter, I noticed an extreme distaste on your face. :D I thought, "Probably a Barber quarter." :D Don't worry, zoyboy, being 3 for 3 on decking Barber quarters in your career should be a commendable act. Don't worry, zoyboy, if you are troubled at decking a B-arber, you should have seen my reaction after noticing a deck mark on my musketball. :D My reaction: Better this than a Barber quarter.:D

Dude, ya shoulda known by the reeded edge that it wasn't gonna be a Reale Olde Find ;) :D

Cmon. Throw it in the bushes with the clad so that someone else can dig it up. :)

I've never found a Barber Quarter. Found lots of Seateds, Coppers, Reales, etc., but never a Barber Quarter. I woulda just looked at it and said "Hmmmm. A Barber Quarter." LOL!

It's still a cool find when all is said and done.

Thanks for sharing zoyboy

Congrats on the nice looking barber quarter, thanks for sharing.

Hello Kyle,

You found a beautiful American silver coin that many md'ers hope to find some day. Please look on the bright side, buddy, you gotta be somewhat relieved that the date of that quarter wasn't a 1901 S. ;D

You are a hardcore datectorist! Chiseling the ground to recover a find is hardcore buddy!! Love your diehard datecting style. ;)

May you strike spanish wilver on your next outing!!
