Ever feel like you just can't win for losing? Yup, that's pretty much how I am feeling at this moment.
Today's finds: Started out today on a small defunct farm, I only found small junk iron and beer cans, so I packed up and left and scouted around for a few more hours, then drove by a house that I have been eyeballing for several months now, but had no idea who owned it. It sits near the center of town about 200 yards away from the last confederate surrender east of the Mississippi River. As I drove by I seen that there was a lawn guy doing his job on the side of the house and thought this was my one and perfect opportunity to find out who owned it. It turned out that it was owned by the church a half block down the street. I obtained permission and started hitting it, and right away within a minute, I had pulled 2 zincolns out of the ground, I continued on to pull out several nails and other small pieces of iron. Then, I get this sweet "buckle: reading on my screen of the MXT and I cut my plug, and out popped a very tiny coin that was smaller than a dime and half the thickness. Heart racing with extreme excitement about my first real early/odd coin, I started making calls to any Tnet member that I had listed in my phone. I spit on the coin, and dabbed it with a soft cloth to try to pull the clay off of it, instead of wiping it and scratching the surface, and after a few dabbs, there appeared a shield!! I finally got ahold of two fellow Tnet members and described the few things I was seeing, one guy said it was a possibly a half dime, or a 3 cent piece, the other said a shield nickle. All fired up, I went hasitly back to see what else I can find, and after another hour of digging, I decided to run home and clean the coin......
Now at home I armed myself with a old toothbrush and some soap and water, I went to lightly and slowly scrub the clay away.....
