A friend gave me this point. It is 3 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. It has a few chips on the tip. I have never seen one like it and was wondering if anyone could I.D. it for me. Thanks.

That looks like a Dovetail with possible damage to the base. Everything looks authentic except for the patina. From the photo it looks like it has a fake patina applied to it but that could just be the lighting. Nice of your friend to give it to you.

I agree it look's like a Dovetail with a slight tip ding and a possiable small chip on the base. The patina look's ok to me it might be the lighting in the photo, or it could be creek stain.

I agree, it looks like a Dove with a little bit of base damage. Where was it found, county and state?

It was found in a creek in Lorain county Ohio, around Wellington.

That would explain why it has such a heavy patina on it. It is much different than the patina that you see on field found artifacts. Thats a nice point to have, not always the easiest one to find.

I don't know what it is but it looks similar to the one on the left that i found in illinois. The one I have may have been reworked but doesn't look like there is any damage to the base on mine.
