That looks like a Dovetail with possible damage to the base. Everything looks authentic except for the patina. From the photo it looks like it has a fake patina applied to it but that could just be the lighting. Nice of your friend to give it to you.

I agree it look's like a Dovetail with a slight tip ding and a possiable small chip on the base. The patina look's ok to me it might be the lighting in the photo, or it could be creek stain.

That would explain why it has such a heavy patina on it. It is much different than the patina that you see on field found artifacts. Thats a nice point to have, not always the easiest one to find.

I don't know what it is but it looks similar to the one on the left that i found in illinois. The one I have may have been reworked but doesn't look like there is any damage to the base on mine.
