I.D. help please

[Barefeets]

I found this beauty yesterday in Southwest Virginia along a river. It has somewhat of a stem on it which looks like may have been about a cm longer at some point. Is it a blade or projectile point? Thanks for any info.

Stage 3 biface. There are 5 stages to make a finished spear point or knife. At any point during the 5 stages, the artifact can be used as a tool. Your artifact has been shaped and flaked on both sides. So it is now a biface. This is the common stage when these are traded. It might have been used like that. If the quality of the stone is good it could be knapped further into something else. This is called the “lithic continuum”. Any flint can be used at any time for various requirements during the 5 stages.

Not really possible to give age on an unfinished blank. It could be anywhere from 1000 to 18,000+ years.

From the only picture provided it appears to be finished.

FYI, when asking about artifacts it really helps to post multiple pictures of all sides and edges, pictures need to be in focus too. After you take a picture blow it up, if it is out of focus take it again.

We need in focus pictures to be able to give accurate info based on what we can see such as flaking pattern ect.

Also use the MARCO setting on your camera
