Both of these were found in South Texas, but in different counties.

First I thought resembled something I saw in my buddies book. I believe it was a agate basin or some "basin" knife. I believe it is a white chert, but for all I know it could be a milky quartz. It has two small black specs in it, as well as a few very small crystals.

Second, I haven't the slightest guess other than maybe a net weight.

Thanks for looking and any opinions

Looks similar to the Zella point shown in Overstreets.

The second piece just looks natural, and not man made.

I'll be the first to admit I don't know a lot about Texas artifacts.. And frankly I've been surprised by some of the material and the way it shows or does not show its age.
Just based on the material I've handled the color of that blade and the apparent lack of patina would lead me to believe it was either Caddoan blade or maybe the slightly older Lerma.
Its nice whatever it is

Cool ill look up the Zella point. As for the other, I had my suspicions it could be natural, but just looked too chipped up not to take home.

I'd say spear points or atl atl points, for the first. if it's waxy looking it's chert.
for the second, could be natural, but if the hole goes right through then possible net weights for fishing. check and see if you can see any wear where twine-rope might have rubbed in the holes.

I thought the exact same thing myself gator. I'm not sure what color the patina would show up on that white material, but as far as I can tell I can't see anything. That one was found way down South by the Rio Grande. I'll look up both that you mentioned appreciate the input!

Yeah I would certainly say it looks pretty waxy. I was leaning towards chert. Do you know what kind/color patina white chert might show?

As for the hole it sure looks a little worn on one side. May have even been a natural rock that was taken advantage of.

I believe Gator nailed it as a Lerma 4000 to 9000 yrs old it's a Mexico-Texas point. I don't think it is a agate basin due to the fact they are known for their parallel flaking. Very nice find:notworthy:

Thanks for all the info and comments everyone. Lerma certainly fits the shape. Only reason I had mentioned the basin knife was because that's the only thing in my buddies book that came close in shape. I have pretty much no idea on age other than what some of my friends have got checked out, as well as whats around some of the local museums and collections. I think it's about time for me to invest in some good identification books as far as type and age, I'm tired of google searching! Here are some images of lerma that showed up.

Can't say I ever have, or ever will buy an artifact... But $45 or best offer sounds tempting....I wonder if he would take $5?!:laughing7:

No joke it's nice I agree with gator!!!!

I should point out I was referring to the Lerma blade.

That Blade is nice and it could be a Lerma. It might also be a Mahaffey. I don't think it's an Agate Basin. I don't see any grinding in on it anywhere.

The other piece looks natural to me too.
