I don't know what the heck I was thinking, but............

....I went digging today for almost 9 hours. I AM PAYING FOR IT ALREADY! I've had a number of muscle cramps already, and now I'm afraid to go to sleep for fear of the dreaded Charlie Horse! :
Got to the site at about 9:00, and coil to the soil at 9:15.
First good target straight out of the box was the lead finial! I was really happy with that, since I hear they're rare. My best find of the day came about an hour later in the form of the Isaac and Campbell CS knapsack hook! I had to get my trusty ID buddy Lee Kern some photos before I even knew what it was! Thanks again Lee! Since I was in a Confederate camp, I was hoping for a nice CS button, but it wasn't meant to be today. I was happy with the GS just the same.
I had to stay in the woods for the entire day for the shade, and took numerous breaks. I'd hate to know how much water and Gatorade I drank, and I STILL overdid it! I was a little wobbly when I finally stopped at about 6. I was talking on the phone with my wife, and since I "didn't sound right" to her, she made it clear I'd better knock off and come home. What would we do without them??
I wanted to get some opinions on the second picture...what's the large piece on the top?? Also, I'm guessing someone on the spot may recognize the bottom piece with its unique design.

KILLER finds! The knapsack hook is a top notch find, and you're right--the lead finial is an excellent dig. I also like the cannister shot too!

Well if you aren't half dead tomorrow, then get online and tell us how you're feeling. 9 hours is a danged long time in the type of heat we're getting here.

First air for muscle cramps: Tums, Calcium pill, banana, or potato. Muscle cramps caused by serious dehydration which also robs your body of potasium and calcium. Works amazingly fast: usually less than a minute.

I can see why you overdid it, though.

Really nice finds i see a figure standing facing left in uniform with beard wearing a military cap ? or are my old eyes foolin me, please don't remind me of leg cramps 2 weeks ago i over did it at 5am i woke with the back of my upper left thigh twisted in knots i almost died the pain was unbelievable for 5 minutes i finally got out of bed and had to move around Dd60

First of all, great finds! Second, what I do is eat a banana before bed, it helps from being THROWN outta bed with that charlie horse!

I drink propel with rehydration salts added, the vitamins in propel make it better than gatoraid and it is way cheaper if you buy the little 10 pack of pouches and mix your own. I got rehydration salts off of ebay super cheap but you can buy them at drugstores too. being a diver the air we breathe is very dry and if it is hot you sweat under water. I try to drink half of one before the dive and drink the rest after. it also helps that beat up feeling the day after long dives.

agree the last item to me looks like a horse hoof pick as well.* watch the heat --heat stroke can kill you or seriously screw you up at the very least . --- i've passed out years ago from heat while working ina hot ship kitchen in the tropics when the a/c as not working property --(old rust bucket ship ) -- its not funny at all.
