When I dug this little jewel I thought it was Pepperbox pistol but to my surprise it is a Springfield 1st Model 1 of only 125 made!!!!I need to find the barrel!!!
Well to all you na sayeres, several gun experts have since looked at the gun and all have agreed it is indeed a 1st model Springfield. The pics posted above are not the right model, there are some differences. The pics I have posted are of the 1st Model.A professional Conservator has voiced an interest in attempting to restore it.I am going to hold off to see if I can find the barrel.A little history on the site ........It was found at an Adobe house built by a member of the New York Volunteers after he mustered out.The New York Volunteers were sent to California to serve as a military presence for the Mexican American war. This pistol could have been his service sidearm?
No problem I am just jabbin at you and PleBlah!!!I am with you guys,I want proof!!!!I dont get the "rototiller" comment though?Oh,yea what does "Bump" mean

Another great find from California history. Thank you for sharing your find and the history that went with it. I hope you can find the barrel and put the pieces together and get it diplayed for your collection. Please post pictures if you find the rest of it and keep us up to date with any restoration.
Nice historic find !
I hope you can find the barrel too. If it was in a plowing
field there is the possibility that the plow could have hit
the barrel and moved it some distance away from the rest
of the pistol

Thanks for the replies,It looks like a roto tiller went through because I dug all around the hole trying to find the barrel, and then put the gun back down to kind of show what it looked like when I first seen it.........just not the same!!!
