Just when you think you've seen everything conceivably dug you dig up something totally unexpected! I got a large target alert signal on my Fisher and thought that I probably had another aluminum can in the median strip...:icon_scratch:....Digging down 4 inches and out pops a solid brass Gargoyle! ...This thing is a little creepy! Stuck it in my pouch and kept on hunting this median strip that I've pounded to death about 20 times. A silver dime, silver nickel, and 5 wheat pennies would be good for my first 3 hours today.

I drove to the other side of town an continued my hunt at the front of the elementary school that I've been hunting the last 4 weekends and dug out 2 more silver dimes! A 42 merc and a 49 rosie would top off a good days hunt. 13 total wheat pennies would be dug today! I wish all my hunting adventures were as good as it was today !

Congrats on a nice hunt. Buckle takes me back to my scouting days.

Very nice variety,, the badge and buckle are cool.
The gargoyle is definitely different.
Congrats on the Silver.

awesome hunt!!

YOUR GARGOYLE LOOKS LIKE A FOO DOG - SUPPOSED TO BE GOOD LUCK

I agree with Casper 2, it does look more like a Chinese Foo Dog. Gargoyles usually have wings, your find does not.

Also, it may be bronze instead of brass. Bronze casts better and was cheaper.

Anyway, nice finds. Congrats.

Nice finds! Reminds me of my cub scout pin I found last year.

Sweet finds, I'm sorry your stuck behind the iron curtain, you did manage to hunt up some real goodies. I like your dog.

Those pictures on your post were really well done. And I keep looking for a spot like that.

Agreed.

I love that little gargoyle, or dog, or whatever he is! If he is a good luck dog then so much the better - we can all use some luck :)
What a great hunt - I find nothing more fun than finding unusual stuff like that.

This Foo Dog theory makes a lot of sense now. I'm hunting a section of San Francisco that has a large Chinese population. I'm running into a lot of interested Chinese people that don't have a clue to what I'm doing swinging that round thing on the end of a stick. ...One Chinese guy stopped me in the middle of detecting a couple of years ago and thought that I was trying to kill the gophers!

Never heard about Foo Dogs before, as long as it brings good luck it's welcome! Great finds there!

Nice relic and silver coin hunt! :occasion14:
