By chance i ran across a different set of old plat maps that showed a mid 1800s campground. Long story short i made a half hour hunt to check it out . Great spot open woods soil good to copper. I found this Indian in the first 5 minutes almost no corrosion. There's at least 20 acres to hunt. I have no idea what kind of camp. It was. All my future hunts will be there for a long time to come!

Re: I finialy found a dream site! UPDATE RETURN TRIP PLUS CLEANED PICS

Great finds! Thanks for sharing and keep searching. You've found a fantastic site.
Hey, NJ, I miss my Harley too! It's sitting in the garage... and I have a broken heel!

RL,
Great site...I'm sure there are tons of 1800 coins waiting there for you. I have a feeling this thread may go on for a while with lots of coins being posted. Congrats on the silver.

Sometime between my first and second kids I sold mine to someone in Ireland. One day I will have to plan a trip to go visit her and do some detecting while I'm there. On nice days like today it hurts the most...lol.

I did join klr.net but i am not very active. Mine is bone stock except for the kenda 270s. I would kill to not have to be in neutral to start it.

Re: I finialy found a dream site! UPDATE RETURN TRIP PLUS CLEANED PICS

Really OT.....

RL sed,". I would kill to not have to be in neutral to start it." What? You should be able to start it in any gear, so long as the key is on, the battery is good, clutch is in and the sidestand is up.

A KLR will get you to a LOT of good sites to locate.....places where no other vehicle will take you! (there, now the post is locating related ;D)

thanks for the info i thought it was made that way. I fixed the clutch safty switch and presto starts in gear now! Who thought including a pic of my bike would solve an annoying problem.

nice finds and site. was just wondering where did you find the plat maps you mentioned that you saw the campground on? i am in east tennessee but cant find much of any maps. seems like all i can find is just county line maps and such. do you find yours at the library, county seat, etc? any info would be great on research. thanks and HH

Re: I finialy found a dream site! UPDATE RETURN TRIP PLUS CLEANED PICS

I was going to ask the same thing - I'm in eastern Pa - and the local library didn't know what I was asking for...
another thing, what's your best method of transporting your detector? I have a 2000 KLR and I used to backpack things around...very good idea... thanks for posting...

Re: I finialy found a dream site! **NEW UPDATE 1 HOUR HUNT = INDIAN MASACRE**

Saturday I went back for a short morning hunt and my coil was on fire. Every 10 feet another coin I beat my record of 7 in a day by a mile with 8 Indian cents and my very first shield nickle in a 1 hour hunt!! The shield is toast but the coppers are coming out sweet. Dates range from 1865 to '83 with very nice 1870 and 1878 Indians as the stars of the hunt. Here's some pics. Cleaning is still in progress the wife kicked me out of the kitchen I set up shop in the man cave. They have a little way to go but they will clean up great.

The maps were online I just searched for old maps of PA. I put my minelab in a backpack and strap it to the rear rack. Don,t let it stick out the sides too much or it will get broken when you dump it. I lay it down a few times a year as I am off trail a lot.

Re: I finialy found a dream site! **NEW UPDATE 1 HOUR HUNT = INDIAN MASACRE**

Wow, that has to be one great spot. Slow and easy, and I bet you'll be back here again with some real sweet coins. When you're done w/the big coil will you hit it with a smaller one (like a 6 incher)? Bring one of those collapsible rakes too. Might get ya deeper!

When I do clean the coppers I get I use the hot peroxide, a bamboo skewer and plenty of Q-tips. Seems to do the best (gentlest) and gets the work done quickly for me.

I'll use my pro then my 8" then My 5" coils but I'll be cherry picking the rest of this season! I use hot peroxide and a tooth brush. I prop the coins up with toothpicks to keep them off the sides of the bowl that way there's no big bubbles trapped under the coins.

In all my coin fueled excitement i forgot to post this very cool pocket knife I dug in that hunt also. This is the only relic dug there yet.

Toothpicks are a good idea. I use plastic picnic forks and prop the coins inside the tines.

Nice pocket knife. Seems you'll have a whole season of digging at that spot. Go to it and keep use informed! :notworthy:

Thanks I am totally stealing your plastic fork idea!

Re: I finialy found a dream site! **NEW UPDATE 1 HOUR HUNT = INDIAN MASACRE**

Nice spot, probly gonna find a lot of goodies there.

Re: I finialy found a dream site! **NEW UPDATE 1 HOUR HUNT = INDIAN MASACRE**

If that's an old camp you found yourself one heck of a "Honey Hole" for a long time to come. Wooded areas can be good places to hunt as much of the ground is covered by deciduous trees for at least 6 months out of the year which help protect the soil and coins from the rains. Thedecomposing leaves turn into nice soil too which can be gentle on the coins as well. These places are hard to come by so get in there before the ground freezes. Can't wait to see what else you pull from there. You might even find an old bottle dump nearby too

Re: I finialy found a dream site! **NEW UPDATE 1 HOUR HUNT = INDIAN MASACRE**

The only thing better than you finding this terrific spot would be ME finding it! ;D Congrats on a great find and best wishes for continued success....there has got to be more and better finds there!! :icon_thumleft:
