By chance i ran across a different set of old plat maps that showed a mid 1800s campground. Long story short i made a half hour hunt to check it out . Great spot open woods soil good to copper. I found this Indian in the first 5 minutes almost no corrosion. There's at least 20 acres to hunt. I have no idea what kind of camp. It was. All my future hunts will be there for a long time to come!

I've always heard that some Indian Head Pennies will fall into that zone the detector will see as junk/steel alloy, and that one has to program in I. H. Pennies so it will see them.

Did you have to something special for your detector to see those pennies?

Man great site you got to hunt. I found one like it some years ago and still hunt it. Dig it all great place for a gold coin dig the low tones bet ya theres one there. Good luck

I use ferrous sounds and the minimum iron mask only. Plus I dig anything non ferrous. Forget about coin mode and crank up the gain and just run as little discrimination as you can stand. And it helps to seek out low trash long abandoned sites to hunt, that is what the hobby is all about for me finding those places no one has set foot for a century or so.

Wow, that has to be one great spot. Slow and easy, and I bet you'll be back here again with some real sweet coins. When you're done w/the big coil will you hit it with a smaller one (like a 6 incher)? Bring one of those collapsible rakes too. Might get ya deeper!

When I do clean the coppers I get I use the hot peroxide, a bamboo skewer and plenty of Q-tips. Seems to do the best (gentlest) and gets the work done quickly for me.

I'll use my pro then my 8" then My 5" coils but I'll be cherry picking the rest of this season! I use hot peroxide and a tooth brush. I prop the coins up with toothpicks to keep them off the sides of the bowl that way there's no big bubbles trapped under the coins.

Toothpicks are a good idea. I use plastic picnic forks and prop the coins inside the tines.

Nice pocket knife. Seems you'll have a whole season of digging at that spot. Go to it and keep use informed!

By all means. I learned the whole peroxide thing from here. Sharing is a good thing. Just keep us in the loop on those great finds!

Those Indian Head cents are in great condition and good job on the research locating the area. I like that pocket knife too! I can't imagine digging IHs in good condition, the soil in my area is terrible on them.

I've never seen IH's come out in such great condition. What a site! Keep digging and taking pics!!
