Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I recently helped my mother in law move to Buchanan Va. Of course i studied the maps prior to going just to see if there was any potential for relic hunting. The house and property showed activity back into the 1800s so i decided to take my detector with me. As soon as we got there i started searching. I didn't have much time but i was anxious to see what might be there. 1st hit was a 1928 standing liberty! second hit Indian head 1865, 3rd,4th,5th, and 6th were all really old wheat pennies. I dug a couple pull tabs after that and then i found the 1951 silver Rosie. At that point i was forced to stop by my wife and start unloading the truck. lol. I only hunted for about 30 min total and i am dying to go back to see what else might be there! The property is about 20 acres which includes another very old abandoned house. If i found all that in 30 min i can only imagine what else may still be laying under the ground.

Love the SLQ, congrats on the new silver mine!

Congratualtions on the old coin shooting! :occasion14:

Nice silver finds. Congrats

Hi, nice finds. Congrats on the nice silver coins:icon_thumleft:

Nice finds. Keep us posted on the web.

Sorry the pictures are not very good. I did take some better ones later and the date on the standing liberty is much more visible. Also the Indian head cleaned up pretty good. Everything is visible on the coin and it has the shield. I am the one who scratched it while digging though. I was definitely not happy about that.

Here's hoping the next round is Seateds 'n Barbers!! 🙌

I hope so too. They would be my first. It definitely looks promising and not much trash. I am so use to hunting in trashy areas that i almost didn't believe the signals when i heard them. The front of the house is littered with coins. There was a wagon trail that passed right in front of the house and there is a Very old church right up the street. Early 1800s at least. The current house was built somewhere between 1925-1935. But the Indian head makes me think there was probably something there way before that.

Congrats, sounds like a good spot to hunt.

I see that you hit the Indian with the digger. I recognize this because I do it too. Be careful, if you scratch a really good coin, you will not be happy with yourself.

Good luck to you!

Way to go.like the silver.:icon_thumright:

Oh a SLQ! Congrats! :icon_thumleft:

Its always nice to dig a Standing Liberty. Now get that truck unloaded, and get back out there !

Those coins were in circulation on the 40s and 50s in that condition. Hope that helps you.

Keep digging and dig it all!
