Yeah the cap moves unscrew but how old is it

It wouldn’t be some sort of grease cup would it? Pack it with grease, then turn to press grease down the tube? Back in the day large machines were operated by engineers and required constant maintaince while they were running.

Remove the cap and take a pic of what is in the end of the stem under the cap

The third photo sure appears to look like it was designed to press downward when it was turned clockwise.
