Yesterday I met up with a friend in Rhode Island. My buddy was able to line up a small farm field that the original meeting house stood on In the 18th century. With the first few swings up popped the 1837 bust half dime I was in total aw I never thought I would find a second.not to long after I moved out to a small grove of scrubby pine trees and there I retrieved the two coppers. One I know is an 1803 large cent ,but soon after coming out of the ground the detail just absolutely deteriorated. The second copper the only remaining detail is a T which also leads me to believe its a large cent. The ground at this site is not kind to coppers.then soon after I found the coppers up pops the copper disk which I think is an early bridal rosette. Any ideas on that one?. Then finally I found the pat 1879 buckle. All in all it was a good day. Thanks for looking- Justin ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1430693936.473410.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1430693955.908913.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1430693969.162660.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1430693981.432327.jpg

Love the bust silvers. Just a tip for your coppers but I always put them in a sealed case with some moist dirt from the hole until I get them home. They do not like leaving the comfort of the climate that they've been in for 200 years. It will keep them from peeling and flaking until you can get em hone and assess your options. Great hunt buddy

Thank you ahab. I will have to try that next time. I've had this happen to coppers a few times before.

Thank you ahab. I will have to try that next time. I've had this happen to coppers a few times before.

First off, a capped bust 1/2 dime is an amazing find and something that doesn't just come up very often. Spectacular find!

Second, I'm with Abe on the old copper treatment. I repack old coppers in a ball of dirt from whence it came and bag it. When I get home it comes out of the clump and straight into distilled water. Is that the winning combo? Who knows since each copper is uniquely damaged by hundreds of years in the ground. Bla bla bla.

Anyway, holy smokes that 1/2 dime is awesome.

Awesome info thank you. So what's the purpose of the distiller water? Does it stabilize the coin?
