All very cool finds, could you educate me to what you are pointing at in the first pic? I was thinking it was the 1866 Indian reverse, but when I went on the NGC coin explorer I could not find that on a 1866 IH?

You are correct! The reason I posted it is because it's a cud error where the die used to form the penny had a break causing the top to fill with material.

Great finds Helton! Thanks for sharing...

what an awesome day you had...

The old copper looks like it might be a Liberty Cap Large cent based on the ribbon. Would be interested to see pictures if it is able to restored any further.

I'm actually researching that now. Frankly I'm scared to try anything further for fear of losing the only thing that identifies it (the ribbon and part of the 1/100). I would love to bring out more detail but I think it's just worn smooth.

The ribbon almost certainly ID's the piece as a Draped Bust large cent ( 1796 -1807) The angle of the ribbon section on the right
from the bend on makes this certain -as it differs from the earlier "Capped Bust " large cents .

Congratulations on what would have easily been the best day detecting for most of us. Continued good luck!

Amazing is the perfect word!

WTG!

Nice congrats! Great finds!
