Wednesday it was 60 degrees and sunny. Loaded up the CTX and headed to a local park. I located a hill that kept giving up wheat pennies. I figured that there might still be a stray silver that wasn't picked off by previous hunters. I stayed with it. Plenty of targets. The final coin count for the day was 119 coins, with some interesting finds that included a silver plated butter knife,
One target that was really challenging was a coin that was registering between dime/quarter. The tone wasn't high enough to make me think silver but the CTX was saying it was about 7 inches deep. Sure,,, it was deep ,, and under some roots. That's probably why it was passed over by other hunters. It took a solid half hour or more to dig it out. I didn't know what it was right off. I could make out, 1944, United States, and one centavos.
Took a little bit to clean it up and research WWII coinage. It turns out it is a; U.S. Commonwealth of Filipinas, one centavo, minted in San Francisco. Pretty interesting and a first for me.
I had to work for this one.
