I was checking out treasurenet at lunch today and couldn't stand it any more! So...

I left work early and headed out with a very short hunting window... It was worth it!

First picture... My standard fare of .45-70 shells and bullets; a cool hinge (I rarely keep these, but this one has charactor); a couple of nails, shotgun shell base; glass button; a tarp/tent grommet; some other bits... I couldn't find and makers marks on that silver piece... oh well. ;)

Second picture... OH MY GAWD! I never find stuff THIS cool!!! ;D ;D It's a Infantry Bugle hat pin for the soldier's forage (kepi) hats! It's torn in the middle, but it's in one piece and all there! And best of all I can guarantee it's freaking real!

As always, thanks for looking...

I wonder that too... I've learned to bring it home, clean it, and look very close now-a-days.

Heres a comarison...

Very great relic finds!!!!! :)

What a find! I know that made your day! :) Wonder if it would be possible to bend it back without breaking it? Great hunt for you today!

Congrats! Nana :)

Nana... I'm scared to try... it's fairly brittle after 130 years and I'm leaving it alone!

I might flatten it enough to display though.

Hey MJ, congratulations on all the great stuff. I sure am happy you went out and found some goodies . But I must say I'm a little disappointed that you didn't include a What's It in your finds. Drat! Great bugle hat pin. WTG
The door hinge with that unique hinge pin is awesome. Great finds.

Montana Jim.. you rock!!! Great finds.

Hi Jim,Nice bit of horn blowing WTG

t.p ;D ;D ;D

Wow! That's great! I probably would have mashed it flat and stuffed it in my pocket to chunk later. Maybe if you heated it a little you could straighten it some. Or take it to a jeweler.

Very nice find! Could it be a CW Infantrymans badge? HH, Mike

Jim,
Another great post with fantastic pictures. Way to go you ol' horn blower, you.
What is that small item in the first picture, bottom left, with two rivets, that looks like it has a small keyhole? I found one of those at that farm spot, and I saw another posted yesterday with some other CW relics.
Any idea? It's killing me! ;D
Congrats.

Yes Mike... exactly!  After the Civil War, crossed muskets was used for the Infantry, which is what I should have found at this location.  This pin predates the area.

That thing is small... I do think it's a teeny weeny key-hole thingy. It's brass... and whatever it was rivited to has rusted away. I guess it prolly secured something... small box, small book...

MJ, you 'ole horn blower. ;) Congrats on some really nice pieces. HH!
