Thank you :D Thank you :D Thank you :D Thank you :D

But you really need to learn how to do it right.

I picked up a box of halves yesterday, it was sealed from the bank. When I opened it I noticed the crimping on one side of every roll was loose. I opened my first roll and every coin had a red line drawn on the edge. This was true for all 50 rolls.

I found 1 90% JFK & 26 40% JFKs.

27 silvers in a hunted box!!! ;D ;D ;D

So, whoever is my competition, keep hunting the way you do! You are doing everything correct. Also, if you ever find any of those old dirty coins that have a lady standing up, those are worthless and you can leave them in the roll also.

Thats awesome and hilarious :) Good job .

Not sure why a half-dollar hunter left all those, but hey, who cares !!!

I would have been bummed big time if I saw all the marked rolls. Good thing
you had the curiosity to go through them anyway !

Nice score

Hope that person moves to my area. Congrats on your finds.

Re: I have a few things to say to the person that hunted my last $500 box of hal

HI CYBERDAN,WHEN YOU SAY YOU "PICKED UP" A BOX DO YOU MEAN YOU JUST WENT TO THE BANK AND ASKED IF THEY HAD HALVES AND THEY TOLD YOU ABOUT THE BOX THAT SOMEONE HAD RETURNED OR IT WAS A BOX THAT YOU HAD SPECIFICALLY ORDERED?

AND YOU SAY THE BOX WAS "SEALED",WAS THAT WITH BROWN PAPER TAPE THAT MOST BOXES COME FROM THE SUPPLIER WITH OR REGULAR TAPE THAT A BANK EMPLOYEE PUT ON IT?

THE REASON I ASK IS YOU MENTIONED THAT ALL THE ROLLS WERE UNCRIMPED ON ONE SIDE LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE SEARCHED IT,RETURNED IT AND THEN INSTEAD OF THE BANK SHIPPING IT OUT,THEY JUST SOLD IT TO YOU,IS THIS CORRECT?

IF THIS IS THE CASE WERE THEY ALL FULL?I GOT A BOX RECENTLY THAT HAD BEEN TORN APART PRETTY BADLY AND WRAPPED SEVERAL TIMES WITH THICK CLEAR PACKING TAPE TO REINFORCE IT,I ASKED THE BANK IF IT WAS DELIVED FROM THE SUPPLIER LIKE THAT AND THEY SAID YES AND WHEN I ASKED WHY THE SUPPLIER WOULD'NT JUST USE A NEW BOX THEY SAID THEY DIDNT KNOW BUT THAT IT WAS FINE AND DEFINATELY NOT FROM A CUSTOMER.

WELL I WENT THROUGH THE BOX AND SEVERAL ROLLS OF THE COINS WERE NOT IN WRAPPERS AT ALL BUT PLACED IN ZIPLOC BAGGIES AND HAD PACKING TAPE WRAPPED AROUND THEM,A FEW WERE MISSING 2 HALVES,2 BAGGIES WERE MISSING 4 HALVES EACH FOR A TOTAL OF $492 IN A $500 BOX,WISH I HAD TAKEN THE TIME TO OPEN IT THERE IN THE BANK LOBBY SO I COULD HAVE SHOWED THEM AND HAD PROOF OF THE SHORTS.

I JUST HAD TO RIGHT IT OFF AS A BAD EXPERIENCE AND I SEARCHED THE REST OF THE ROLLS ANYWAY AND IT HAD NO GOOD ONES-SILVER OR PROOF.OH WELL.

WITH SO MANY PEOPLE DOING CRH AND RETURNING THE SEARCHED BOXES TO OTHER BANKS IN THE SAME AREA IS THERE A WAY TO PREVENT THE SUPPLIERS FROM FILLING OUR ORDERS TO OUR PERSONAL BANKS FOR US TO PICK UP AND SEARCH,WITH BOXES THAT THEY THEMSELVES MAY HAVE JUST PICKED UP FROM A BRANCH ACROSS THE STREET?

WHAT I MEAN IS,IS THERE A WAY TO INSURE WE ARE GETTING BOXES THAT ARE MACHINE ROLLED FROM THE SUPPLIERS FACILITY AND NOT JUST ONES THEY PICK UP ON THERE ROUTE AND INSTEAD OF RETURING THEM TO THE FACILITY TO BE RECOUNTED-REWRAPPED,JUST DROPPING THEM OFF FOR US TO BUY WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN SEARCHED.

I KNOW SEVERAL OF YOU ON HERE ARE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE BANKS/CREDIT UNIONS WITH COUNTERS YOU CAN USE TO BRING IN UNROLLED COINS,BUT FOR ME I HAVE TO INDIVIDUALLY WRAP EACH ROLL BEFORE I CAN RETURN IT AND EVEN THEN IT'S A STRUGGLE TO GET THEM TO DO IT WITH OUT CALLING OVER THE MANAGER TO OK IT AND THEN ASK WHERE I AM GETTING ALL THESE FROM AND WHY I KEEP RETURING SO MANY SO OFTEN, AND I AM CONCERNED THAT PRETTY SOON THE BRANCHES I RETURN TO ARE GOING TO SHIP OUT THE BOXES AND THE SUPPLIER IS JUST GOING TO BRING THEM TO THE BANK WHERE I ORDER THEM FROM AND I WILL GET BOXES "I" PERSONALLY HAVE SEARCHED,AND I KNOW HOW ANGRY THE TELLER WOULD BE IF I SAID I CAN'T BUY THAT BOX BECAUSE I HAVE ALREADY GONE THROUGH IT,I'M SURE THAT WOULD BE THE LAST TIME SHE WOULD PLACE AN ORDER FOR ME.

IF ANY OF THIS MAKES ANY SENSE TO YOU GUYS I'D LOVE TO HEAR YOUR COMMENT'S ON THE SUBJECT.THANKS FOR YOUR TIME...SCHRAMM...

Re: I have a few things to say to the person that hunted my last $500 box of hal

That is a lot of questions to answer, I will try my best. I have only been hunting a month or so (about $4000) but have done good and you can pick it up fast. If I miss anything I am sure others on the board will help out.

WHEN YOU SAY YOU "PICKED UP" A BOX DO YOU MEAN YOU JUST WENT TO THE BANK AND
I order them as I need them takes 2-3 business days. Already ordered 2 boxes for this week.

..YOU SAY THE BOX WAS "SEALED",WAS THAT WITH BROWN PAPER TAPE...
Yes, I checked. One layer of brown tape. No residue from any other piece.

...ALL THE ROLLS WERE UNCRIMPED ON ONE SIDE LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE SEARCHED IT.....
The rolls were searched and returned in the same wrappers to someplace and then I am sure were sent back to the main branch and repackaged in a new box. Someone was lazy and just transferred the rolls with out counting and wrapping.

IF THIS IS THE CASE WERE THEY ALL FULL?
Yes, I got 1000 halves. (I did buy an additional $200 in customer rolled/returned coins at another bank on Saturday. They only contained $199.50 but I got 2 - 40%, so I was happy)

IS THERE A WAY TO INSURE WE ARE GETTING BOXES THAT ARE MACHINE ROLLED FROM THE SUPPLIERS FACILITY AND NOT JUST ONES THEY PICK UP ON THERE ROUTE
I would say just look at the box seal. I do not think the banks do any packaging or taping.

I HAVE TO INDIVIDUALLY WRAP EACH ROLL BEFORE I CAN RETURN IT
I do too mostly. I invented a little contraption that I put a 50 cent wrapper on and drop the coins in and they all fall in place with just enough wrapper showing for a good fold, then I turn it over and fold the other side. Cuts my time in half.

IT'S A STRUGGLE TO GET THEM TO DO IT WITH OUT CALLING OVER THE MANAGER
Yes, the tellers do tend to call over the manager but for a different reason. The rolls are heavy and all my tellers tend to be 20 something girls and just too weak to pick them up. :D

TO OK IT AND THEN ASK WHERE I AM GETTING ALL THESE FROM AND WHY I KEEP RETURING SO MANY SO OFTEN, AND I AM CONCERNED THAT PRETTY SOON THE BRANCHES I RETURN TO ARE GOING TO SHIP OUT THE BOXES AND THE SUPPLIER IS JUST GOING TO BRING THEM TO THE BANK WHERE I ORDER THEM FROM AND I WILL GET BOXES "I" PERSONALLY HAVE SEARCHED,AND I KNOW HOW ANGRY THE TELLER WOULD BE IF I SAID I CAN'T BUY THAT BOX BECAUSE I HAVE ALREADY GONE THROUGH IT,I'M SURE THAT WOULD BE THE LAST TIME SHE WOULD PLACE AN ORDER FOR ME.

Hard to answer this one. Here is a rule of thumb I use. It has worked so far. Never bring back coins to any bank you have gotten coins from. I have four bank accounts. #1 for getting halves and #2,#3,#4 for returning. Split up your returns among those three banks. Use different branches and rotate them, that way you only go into the same branch/bank every 3 weeks or so. It has worked great so far. (only one month)

I do get the question about what I do with all those coins. I tell them I am a collector and I trade coins and sell them. I also tell them (its the truth) that I make touristy souvenirs out of many and sell them through gift shops. The coins I am returning just are not needed.

Dan, how about a photo of your touristy souvernis. I'll keep my eyes out for them. Although you're a little farther south then I am, they might still find there way up here to ventura.

Here is my retail website http://www.thesmashedpenny.com/store/ address. So far these are in Christian stores and with companies that race pigs. You will have to visit my site to understand what I am talking about.

I am working on three more right now. Can't tell who they are for yet, but I will hint: big tourist attraction in San Diego, major marine attraction in So CA and one for a very popular animal in AK.

Hey Schramm,

From what I read in your other post about the "outrageous" behavior from your bank teller,
are you certain this box of halves, opened, taped with baggies and missing halves, couldnt
be from her going through it ? Id definitely be skeptical with anything in that bank.

Re: I have a few things to say to the person that hunted my last $500 box of hal

thanks for answering my many questions cyberdan, but I hope your theory of the worker just being lazy and transferring the searched/opened rolls from one box to another and not emptying them and throwing them back into the counting/wrapping machine doesnt happen to often because that could be devistating to what we are trying to accomplish here.

I wonder if this has happened to anyone else on this board,or if they always get fresh machine rolled boxes?

Dan,one more question, you say you mostly have to wrap the coins before you can return them,do you just return them to the machine rolled wrappers and send them back that way or do the tellers give you hundreds of empty wrappers when you get your boxes so you can return them?

my bank will only give me about 50 wrappers per visit and that's only enough for one box.

to thurmownator:I got this particular box from a different bank in another city than the bank I wrote about with the horrible teller.I rarely ever went to that bank and now will never go again, unless I can figure out a way to get that teller fired, which I don't think I will be able to do.

It's one thing to pick out good coins if you have a customer turn them in loose and you quickly put them out of site under the counter or something, but to have them out in plain view in the regular change tray and then do what she did is absolutely wrong under any circumstances.

I wanted to reply to that thread I started but I could only read a couple of the responces, most of them were only 1 or 2 sentences and then cut off the rest and I can't see what I am doing wrong to make the rest of the post not appear on my screen.

Has anyone else had this problem?I'ts not just on my thread but most others on here I can't see the whole post, unless the person replying includes the previous post in there reply-it shows up with a purple background when they do it.Half or more of the topics on here I can't see more that the first few sentences. Thanks for the help...schramm...

I have recieved a few boxes like this - with most rolls being opened on one end and loosely rewrapped. I think each one at least had some silver. They came from different branches of the same bank, so I can't pin it on just one inept teller CRHing.

I always got machine rolled coins in sealed boxes, except this one time.

Dan,one more question, you say you mostly have to wrap the coins before you can return them,do you just return them to the machine rolled wrappers
No, I tend to destroy the wrappers when I open them.

do the tellers give you hundreds of empty wrappers when you get your boxes so you can return them?
Yes

Sounds like a computer problem. Or does look exactly like the box right above this sentence? If it looks like what is above that is a quote from your question being answered directly.

Re: I have a few things to say to the person that hunted my last $500 box of hal

thanks for the reply dan,I see what you mean about quotes to answer a question directly, like you have done, but what I mean is when someone includes the entire previous post in there current post is when I can read what what was said in the previous post, but when some people post, there entire post is readable to me because they have a scroll bar on the side for their post not for the whole page,in other words there are 2 scroll bars on some posts.Maybe it is just a problem with my particular computer not displaying the entire post's of some people.

Also,I was wondering, does your bank order in hundreds of empty wrappers for you or do they always just seem to have hundreds in stock for you?Thanks...

Re: I have a few things to say to the person that hunted my last $500 box of hal

Sounds like computer settings or a problem on your first question.

Also,I was wondering, does your bank order in hundreds of empty wrappers for you or do they always just seem to have hundreds in stock for you?
My bank has small boxes of wrappers on a counter near the entrance. Two weeks ago I was given the last of the half wrappers and the lady promised to order more. So far they have not come in. Another bank handed me a large handfull, which I just used up last night. I will make a deposit there tonight and ask for more.

Half wrappers are getting harder to find these days. I use the bank rolls that come in my boxes. Just uncrimp one end and fold back over. If you look at the V of the paper edge you can see by which end it is off center toward which end has the larger crimp and unroll that one. If I do destroy one then I hand roll them but that seldom happens. I save the hand rolls for loose coin I pick up from the tellers.
