Im filling out a money order on Saturday night at a bank who I have used to dump heavily on. I was just about done with the transaction when the ALL familiar words are muttered 2 tellers over, "do you have any half dollars or big dollar coins?"

I cant help but take a quick glance over at the guy, I'm studying his technique like a hawk. Teller: I have about $14.00 in loose, you want them? Guy is looking through the glass at them. She picks up a couple to show him, 90% CLANK CLANK CLANK. Guy: "I'll take them all." Teller puts them in an envelope for him, CLANK CLANK CLANK CLANK CLANK CLANK CLANK CLANK. I did hear a couple of clads but a majority were silver.

Needless to say, I was sick all night long at the missed opportunity and my wife was tired of my mouth going on and on about how that was a couple hundred or so dollars worth of silver. I must confess I had 2 deep dark thoughts after the man got the score. One was to wait outside for this man and rob him in the name of Silver, and the other was to offer to buy them. Good thing they were just thoughts.

I thought I could shake this newfound urge to CRH again, but I cant. This man's score right in front of me, is just too much for my little CRH heart to take.

I bet you couldnt handle seeing that either.

Whenever I have to wait in a line at the bank, I always have the fear that the guy in front of me would ask for halves. It hasn't happened to me yet. But, I have had someone behind me ask for halves after I have just purchased them :)

wow :o that hasn't happened to me, but i feel your pain. I would be sick to my stomach if i saw that lol

Thankfully I've never had that happen, but I have heard that they had a lot of them and just sold them 15 minutes ago, and they were all the old ones.

Glad that kicked your butt back into gear. Now go out there and pillage and plunder all of Phoenix!!!

Which bank. I hit two major scores (for us here in Phoenix. NOt like scores back east) both in Scottsdale this past Satruday. Maybe it was me you saw??

I cant tell you this time. It's my protected gem now that I know those tellers dont cull. :-\ Was not Scottsdale though.

On the flipside I now own 2 cars!! One nice one, and the nice commuter I just bought.

Gilmore you be back! I had that same guy ahead of me before on several occassions

I'd be annoyed. However it wouldn't so much be the fact that the other guy scored silver as it would be the fact that the ONE time I do finally find a bank where the over-the-counter halves are actually silver, it gets grabbed by a guy right next to me.

I would guarantee I would lose sleep over that.... However, if somebody on this forum asked which bank it was because they had to decent scores that same day, I would PM them, and then hope and pray it was them so I didnt have to wonder for the rest of my life. For some reason to me, it seems like if I knew exactly what and how big the silver score was, and didnt have to wonder for the rest of my life, it would make me feel better. Anyways, if it was him, without giving away specifics tell us what the score was... I am curious to know.

In case I wasnt clear, expiriencing that would make me vomit all over the lobby of the bank. No telling how many days it would take me to get over it, hopefully I never have to find out either.... unlike some of the saints on this website, I do not want to share the love. I want to be "greedy" and get my hands on all the silver I can before one of "you other" CRH'ers does... just me though.

I know a similar feeling. Here in Canada the 50 cent piece does not circulate whatsoever and the banks can not order them so only when someone brings them in from an old stash can you get them, and you are lucky if you do, silver or not. A few times when I first began CRHing I asked each bank if they had any 50 cent pieces and large dollars and two times from different banks they said something along the lines of "We might, let me check...... sorry but we got rid of them/someone bought them last week/a few days ago."
The same feelings ran through me each time I heard that. A few months ago I went to a new (at the time) bank and asked, they said "someone had brought in about $8 worth early in the morning but a few hours ago someone bought them all." :angry9: :BangHead:
I went back to the same bank a week later and they did have some in an envelope :hello2: but they were saving some for another customer and I could only buy $5 worth :( . I just couldn't stand not knowing so I asked if they had any Pre-1968 (silver in Canada), they dumped the whole envelope out and it looked like only $10 worth all nickel, no silver. I was relieved and gladly took the $5 worth although I would have liked to get the rest I already had a good sized stash of nickel 50 cent pieces.
Anyway I am sorry this happened to you. But why did you not ask for them immediately when you got to the bank before filling out the forms?

Once a CRHer, always a CRHer. I only saw a couple other people search coins in my time CRHing and both were doing Quarters or Small Dollars. Ran into my share of cherrypicking tellers though.

The silver goes to the guy who gets there first !

You need to be THAT guy next time !

Keep on Rollin' !

Sounded a bit harsh there G?? I know meanings get lost in email/typing though. See I actually realize this....so Im not going to get butthurt like someone on here did with her ego-stroking issues as well as her troll wombat sissy friends.

Yeah, Im over it. $200 bucks. The guy probably needed it to pay bills or for a refill for his oxygen tank.

It's just a hobby, but there's nothing wrong with being passionate about it (IMO anyway).

I suppose it's like the deep sea fisherman that loses a 1200lb marlin from the edge of the boat. Sure, it's just a hobby, just a fish, but the emotion and sense of loss is understandable.

It would bug me to watch someone walk away with a handful of Ag that I could've had if only I'd asked.
