I learned something about Excalibur's!

I sent my Minelab Excalibur in for repair ?:'(. ?Turned out the battery cable was corroded and the battery pack was dead as a door nail :(. ?I had tried using NI-Cad's in my unit but the tech explained that AA Ni-Cads are 1.2 volts and 8 of them only give 9.6 volts to the Excalibur causing the Excalibur to act erratic and not reach thresh hold. ?Using factory rechargeable battery packs are $85.00 and for a back up use AA Dura-cell batteries that are 1.5 volt for an even 12 volt. ?If you use a Excaliber and it starts to act erratically, it might be your cable being corroded. ?Its a cheap fix, about $30 in parts and $50/labor ;). ?My bill will be a bit more with the purchase of a new battery pack. ;D

Any idea why it was corroding?

I usually disconnect my battery when I wash it down. Wash and dry the connector on the cable and wipe off the battery contacts.

I had heard using the 1.2 batteries would cause problems.
