I've pretty much focused on the Mohawk river and valley for the last 8 , 9 years and have found many amazing relics and hundreds of coins but Spanish swilver, though hard to come by,is out there and I've found a few nice pieces.

Photo's 1&2 are of my only 2 cobbs
Small cobb came from a shallow river fording spot
And the Big cobb came from me and my buds blockhouse/fort site.

Pix 3 are my reales
All 4 of these were dug at the blockhouse/fort area

Hopefull 2008 will have more Spanish coins !!

Great stuff!!

Although I got my first Copper Cob this year, the silver is still on the list.

Nice bunch ;D

A 4 or 8 reale cob is very high on my want list. Beauty!

Derek, outstanding cobb recoveries, man. I am still looking for my first Spanish wilver.

P.S. I would love to see a "Best Find" post on all of your coppas.

Never found any spanish silver. Those are nice Derek.

Derek

I think a cob would look good in my Spanish coin collection, ;D it appears that cobs just were not circulating in southern NJ as much as I would like, my son and I have perhaps 40 pieces of Spanish Silver, but not one true cob.

Neil, even Wayne (from the SJMDC) in his C4 report had listed a few years ago 90 Spanish Silver found in NJ by him and only 5 of them were cobs (one of them a counterfeit).

So Derek, congrats on getting the cobs you have found, not an easy task, north of the Mason Dixon line. :)
