Well it seems that all good things must come to an end! This past weekend went back up north to my favorite spot. Lack of rain makes it almost impossible to dredge so in goes the sluice. Been working the edge of a bench for most of the summer finally got to the end of it. Alas no more gold went every which way trying to find where it went none to be found. However I did get some gold before I finished the spot. It has been fun especially with the grave robbers or gold gulls which ever you choose. The ones that are too lazy to go find there own spot or think you got rich there LOL! I basically want to thank them for removing all the over-burden and rocks for me! It's sorta funny there was only one type of sands that held gold above it nothing below the same. I found it by accident it was a streak about 12"deep by3' wide by 20' long and all the robbers and gulls either dug the very top or dug to china after I already got the good stuff teach them. Ended up with 7.12 grams after everything was said and done. Not to bad for a few yards of dirt! sorry, spelled body wrong

What type of sand was it. If you don"t mine. Was it heavily mineralized. I think I know where you where at. My thinking was all the gold was in a pay layer. In that stream. But was never able to figure it out. Other then it was just above the clay layer and or hardpan. My thinking. Any help would be great.

HI Triple d, I was up by the camp ground the material I was in was almost like a fine gravel lots of garnets, small pyrite, the silty looking stuff on top has VERY little in it same as the silty stuff under you can tell when you hit the right layer. I was up on a bench above the river. But as I have found the most of the gold in the water is either on top of the hard pan or on the clay and the clay averages from 2' to 6' below. And that river is different take every thing about the way gold behaves throw it out. look in the opposite places, like the front of rocks, inside corners, I have found it in places you wouldn't think it would be. Every time I moved rock I mostly got gold from the front side than the back.

Yes as you describe. Would be easier to see dredging. The clay and the hard pan. Is what I try to hit. Always find gold at the campground. Im pretty sure that layer runs most of that river. And in some of the banks. And it keeps getting washed in. I see you live in Rochester N.H. Ever get up into Maine. Im a member of the Central Maine Prospectors. I try to go to all there outings. A lot of good places in Maine. Should give one of there outings a try next year Some of the streams. Can"t be dredged on but they can get permission some times. Its a fun time. There usually in the Rangley lakes area. Or a little south. I would say a 3-4 hour drive for you. They have a website and facebook.

Next year me and the wife are going to try new places. I have a friend that is a geologist and mined all over Maine he's been bugging me to go up there. He's shown me maps from the old timers that he's inherited can't wait.

May be we can meet up.My wife likes to go also. Either at an outing or some other time. I think you can only dredge middle of June to Sept. More open land in Maine. If your in the club.

Hi, I noticed the website for the club is gone. Is the club dissolving or something? I joined at the gold show in Portland maine several years ago and just never had time to actually get involved. Lately I've been really thinking about it a lot and was a little shocked when the website for two days in a row is dead.

You already know the location and composition of that layer in the stratigraphy of that system, and what I gather from your posts it likely represents one catastrophic flood event. You might be able to find its remaining occurrence all along the former flow, be it in the current river valley or not. There might well be (former) settling pools of that to either side of what was the main flow of the event. This might not be coincident with current topography. Lots of folks would jump at that opportunity! Time to hone your mapping skills!

There still an active group. There final outing is this Sat the 19th. In Chelsea Maine. There Web site www. Central Maine Prospectors Or the same for Facebook. There"s more activity on facebook. This group is still very active. There was another group I can"t find there web site either. This outing is a cookout and final outdoors meeting. All are welcome. The address is on there facebook page.

Does this group have monthly meetings in Windsor at the town hall?

Yes they do. They skip a few months in the winter. The dates are listed on there web site. Were you able to find there web site. And face book page.

I found the Facebook page and it had only 4 entries but I might have screwed that up cause that is the first time I have ever looked on Facebook. I used my wife's account. I could not find the web page at all.

I plan on going back next weekend to do some scouting, I mean some prospecting. I know that it's there just got to find it again! Yes there has been some major flooding the river changes every year.

If you goggle. central maine prospectors. The first two links. The first should be there web site. And the second there face book page. If you still have trouble they meet on the third Sat. of the month. But I think they don"t meet Oct, Nov, and Dec. Just checked there Web. site. And remembered there redoing the web site. So its down till they get it changed over. Changed to a new company to manage it. There facebook page should have a bunch of pictures. And where people have written to there facebook page.

Most people Ive talked to say. Say this year hasn"t been as good. Haven"t been to the campground this year. So I don"t know. Will you be dredging if I happen to get up there. Ill look you up.

Thanks for your help. I would like to try to get involved with the club. Seems like a great organization.
This campground your speaking of, is it the one in Bath New Hampshire?

Yes thats the one.

I have been twice to that campground. First time I did well, second time not so much. That time the river had been dug hard.

It's been dredged to death ! Between the water being really low all season and dredging no replenishing. That's two of the reasons I've been sluicing most of the summer. I can get in where dredges can't. That's how I found the streak that I dug. And did quite well.

I might have to try to get up there for a weekend soon. If not definitely this spring
