Looks like its from a old artillery division AKA cannon division.

Looks like an AV52, War of 1812 era Artillery button, nice one!!

Great find!
Looks very similar to the AY52 button. The left wing is very different looking from other examples.
I'm sure its just a variation I haven't seen. Artillery button from 1808-1821.

do a search in the Illinois archive online for 1812 vets
i believe they got free land here in Illinois for serving
possibly you have a area were he settled or was a local :thumbsup:
cross ref the plat map etc or possibly a 2nd blackhawk war veteran :icon_scratch:
