I NEED SERIOUS HELP - Lot's of whats-its

I hit the old property with the stone chimney again today, but most of these finds were lower on the hill where another house once sat alongside a wagon path. There are four huge old oaks right next to it.
Nothing too exciting, but any help on these whats-its would be greatly appreciated.
The decorative piece I currently have listed in the "what is it" section. Colonial or Victorian? :dontknow:
Thanks for looking.

Oh yeah, I detected in the woods for a few hours and come out with "0" ticks. Yeah Baby! :hello2: :tongue3:

Re: I NEED SERIOUS HELP - Lot's of whats-its

(SORRY): when displaying multiple photos or relics, would be helpful to use numbers of the photos so everyone knows what is being identified.

Top pic, top row looks like 2 small metal gaskets; 2nd row 2 harmonica reeds; 3rd row: bicycle wrench?; 4th row: 10 ga. shotgun shell, probably used in commercial waterfowl hunting; 5th row: forceps/tweezers/holder?; bottom left: early Allen bolt?

2nd Pic: ornate edging. Needs to be straightened and flattened to envision more, but might be for a photo.

3rd Pic: upper left looks like a belt clasp for a military-style cloth belt.

Finally, I can make out a partial inscription on the 10 ga. shotgun shell: "...DGEPORT, CONN."

Never thought i'd say this about a shotgun shell but thats one id like for the collection as well have never seen one. I found a live (plastic 12g) one once chewed on by an animal the rest are just annoying to find

Thanks HH.
I just wish it was in better shape.

Great finds, I can tell you this! The last pic is a tree!! :laughing9:

Yes, but what kind of tree is the tough part?
Here are your choices: (1) Big, (2) Old, (3) Oak.

Nice finds MM! I believe that the second pic is the top half of a victorian chain link purse.

Thanks PF.
That's exactly what it is. I guess now I may try to straighten it back out and won't feel so bad if I break in in the process. Kind of hard to display it as is. :-\

Sorry Tuberale,
I thought that's what the question marks in the pictures were for. :icon_scratch:

Re: I NEED SERIOUS HELP - Lot's of whats-its

those early brass shells were reusible * much like todays shells are -- they just changed out the primers and reloaded the shells -- having "ready made" shotgun loads made break action type shotguns the new in thing to have -- and made "muzzle loading shotguns" old fashioned in a hurry -- the reloadible brass shells however were soon pushed aside by new fangled non reusible waxed paper shotshells that came out -- these one use --disposible shells -- were cheap enough that many folks just quit reloading shotshells altogether.---todays plastic shells are both reloadible and much "water proof" than the old paper shell type could ever be .

10 guage is indeed a "big bore" often used for high flying geese and large game

Re: I NEED SERIOUS HELP - Lot's of whats-its

The very 1st things you see at the top are parts to clocks.I think!lol--i find them with gears in them all the time..

Re: I NEED SERIOUS HELP - Lot's of whats-its

the long thing (tube) in the 7th photo is a valve tube for an inner tube.

The other item in the photo is a decorative piece for leather or cloth..

Re: I NEED SERIOUS HELP - Lot's of whats-its

Hi guys ,just signed in today.I've been hunting 20 yrs.up here in southern Ontario Canada. Now the I.D. clock frames,I see a suspender buckle, that wrench could be a bung wrench,I agree on that ornate piece..half of purse casp,10 gauge turn of century..also called rafting guns because commercial hunters used them to take out a whole raft of foul on the water.Thats all I can remember for now.....Good Site!!

Re: I NEED SERIOUS HELP - Lot's of whats-its

And here I thought it was a vintage travel size toothpaste tube... :tongue3:

Great finds all around bud. Can't wait to get back out there. I do believe it's my turn for another buckle... :icon_thumright:

Re: I NEED SERIOUS HELP - Lot's of whats-its

Yup -- Robbins Co. Attleboro, Ma. made all kinds of emblems and jewelry. Not sure if they are still around. When I was very young my parents had second jobs working the kick presses that stamped out emblems like that in Attleboro. There were many factories like the Robbins Co. in the area that employed thousands of people. Those are some great finds and I wish you good luck on your future detecting.

Jerry,
Thanks for that photo. Now I can see the purpose of all of those tiny holes. I'll give that heating method a shot. Sure can't hurt. ;D

Re: I NEED SERIOUS HELP - Lot's of whats-its

What's the purpose of the 3 inch extension on the down side of the valve? The (modern) ones I've seen just extend a bit into the tube.
