OK, here is the deal. That CZ 20 is extremely difficult to GB. Actually these detectors have been discontinued by Fisher because of this problem. Best thing you can do to resolve this problem is to find some guy that has something like a Surfmaster and trade him. I just happen to have one so package up that obsolete, discontinued CZ and send it to me. I'll send the Surfmaster back and you can hunt with out those annoyances of GB'ing.
I have a CZ20 and here's how I ground balance it. I copied these notes from someone on another forum awhile ago and kept it in my files in case I ever forgot. I never bother learning how to GB it using the "pinpoint" method described in the manual.
Change the title of your thread to include something about CZ20 and ground balancing and you'll probably get more replies.
One last suggestion - give some specifics on exactly what problem you're having (what are you doing and how is the machine responding) and more of us can probably try to help.
Good luck
Adjustment method:
1. Vol @ 10
2. Sens. @ 10
3. Disc @ Autotune
4. GB @ 5(preset)
Bob coil straight up down by about a foot. If volume increases on way down turn knob towards “10”, if volume goes quiet approaching ground and does a rebound on the way back up, turn towards “1”. You want as little change as possible, and some people prefer to run slightly positive(towards “1”) increase when approaching ground. My GB ends up usually between “4” and “6”.

I can't GB with the pinpointer either and do it the way you've posted Lostandfound. Don't ever trade a CZ20 for a Surfmaster.... Not even for five of them and a DFX or two. You'll be robbed.......
