Dudes, if you found a Capped Bust, post the pic here! Also, indicate what kind of site you found it at.

BDD...Kirk

P.S. Here is my Bust half dime. It was excavated in a farmfield at a depth of 2.5".

This find will be in my best silver finds but since you asked, found together lying on top of the ground within 6 inches of each other in a tilled field, same farm that my 1793 Half Cent was found on the surface after tilling.

Rare in my parts but I do have a cut piece of a half.

Site was Early French & British, American showing up was a surprise.

Here you go. Don't know where it came from. I traded for it.

Heres a couple from the coin collection Kirk. I have not dug one up to this point. I hope to change that next year. It's a sin what somebody did to this 1829 dime :-\

Here's my two Capped Busts: An 1814 holed Capped Bust Dime found on New Year's Day 2006 in a passive town park and an 1829 Capped Bust Half Dime found in the woods in April of this year.

I will toss in my only capped bust find to date. 1821 Dime found on the site of an old church established in 1887.

I've found 5 capped bust silvers in my coinshooting career.

This first piece is a half dime found in a church yard in Ardmore, PA. It was right on top of the ground.

The next piece is also a half dime. It was found on the side of a hill off of Reservoir Rd. in Philly. It was also right on top of the ground.

The next piece is a dime found in bare dirt behind the backstop of a ballfield in Burholme Park in NE Philly. It was an inch in the ground.

I have also found an 1820 dime, which was in the same hole with an indian head penny and a 2 cent piece and an 1822 half dollar, which was found together with a 1 reale peice and a half reale piece. I can't show you pictures of these because I traded those coins for an 1890-s double eagle a few years ago.

Kirk,

Here is my contribution...found at a construction site down town, which was also the former site of a CW campground.

I don't have many left or pix of the ones I have found but here is a couple. The first is a 1827 half dime that was found in a CW site in Mo. The second is a half that was found at a camp site on the Missouri river.

This is my only capped bust find.
I found this Halfdime 5 inches deep in a harvested corn field where a farmstead stood in 1870.

Here is the one I have found so far. I nearly soiled myself when I found this one, I left the site immediately due to being in shock :o and knowing there was little to no chance of topping that find for the day. It had long been a dream of mine to find a capped coin, but I always thought it would be a dime or half-dime. It was found at 1 1/2 - 2 inches deep a foot away from a recently paved parking lot. I fully expected a newer quarter and when I flipped out the dirt the half rolled out with the eagle facing up. The site is a public place and it appears a small camp was made there for a short period of time, as I found a flower button there from the 1830's - 1840's as well as a barrel band from a musket and a few misc. items in a small area.

Have a happy new metal detecting year!

Steve

My buddy found this one on Thanksgiving day. Plowed field, which yielded 7 halves, and 3 quarters. Found from 1 inch down to 7 inches. They were in an area maybe 1000 sq. ft area. No other coins were found.
