I paid 100 bucks

Someone said it’s apophyllite, I paid a hundred bucks. Someone died and their kid donated their dads crystal collection. It said pyrite and quartZ on the tag. But it looks like real gold to my untrained eye. It’s from a local thrift store.

You didn't say if this was a thrift store purchase. Could you possibly even connect to the people who donated? That would certainly be the only ones you should even remotely consider contacting. The seller may or may not be able or willing to give up that information. The seller is just SOL. I would not mention it to them at all. Hope that's what it looks like.

It’s from a thrift store. There was another guy that paid over 500 bucks for other peices

That's a nice looking piece, whether it's got gold or not. I don't see the typical cubic structure of pyrite, but that doesn't necessarily mean it isn't. Here's an example of chalcopyrite that has pyrite that doesn't look cubic either.

Look at the "gold" in direct sunlight and then shade it with your hand if the "gold" changes from the gold look to a dull brassy and or gray color it's not gold, gold will look exactly the same color in bright light as it does in shade.

If it stays the same color for test 2 trying sticking it with a sewing needle or a sharp knife point, if it crumbles/shatters it's most likely pyrite, if it just dents very good chance it could be gold.

OR you could take it to a good jeweler or pawn shop that has a spectrometer tuned for gold and they can tell you for sure, they may or may not charge for that service.
