I script Button

Found in N.Y.
Can see New York on the back,but can`t make out the rest.
About the size of a Nichole or 3/4"
Just wondering if this is Civil War Period, would like to know more about it .

When I get time I will let you know what era it is but it is pre civil war I do know that. I think it is 1840's period (Mexican wars). I'm sure that others will be able to help. You can also post it on the "What is it" forum and you will get it I.D.ed.

yep, 1830's-early 1840's Infantry button. they come in many variations and were made by various manufacturers. I tried to read the backmark but can only read a couple of letters. If you can post what the backmark we can look up the info. I have the books on my self. always nice to find an early military button.

I think i see... New York " Young Smith & Co" on the back mark too.

awesome. here is what Tice has to say. "New York, New York, 1830-1858; The partners in this New York hardware and military goods venture were Henry Young, William Smith, and several other individuals. Smith was at times partner with Henry Young and at other times operated independently." p. 143.

I have a preference for this backmark because it is on one of the most historical and rare buttons (another story altogether) in US history and is the only barkmark on this said button. Nice find.
