by the MD'ing bug that is.... ;D

HI everyone, My name is Ken. I am brand new to this community and Metal Detecting in general. Today I just received my new Ace 250 and I thought I would take a minute and share my excitement.....

I have NEVER picked up a MD before, like I said I am a complete amateur to the hobby. My Ace was delivered today and this evening my Daughter and I ventured out into our backyard to see what we could find. Low and behold in less than an hours time I am (well actually my Daughter is) ;) 51 cents richer and the new owner of an old match box car!! This was an awesome time. My daughter was just as excited, she was following me around and as soon as we would get a tone from the MD, she would zero in and start looking. Thank goodness for her young eyes, she picked out most of the finds before I ever saw them. I have attached a couple of pics of our finds a before cleaning and after cleaning shot. They are not the best images, but I just had to share our finds with all of you....

Needless to say our first time out was an absolute success, and I can't wait to go out again. Thanks to everyone here, and to all of the great Ace 250 reviews. This board was pretty much the deciding factor on me getting the Ace. I am looking forward to "meeting" everyone here, and I look forward to be a part of such a great community. Thanks. HH.

not a bad way to start out...welcome and hope to see more posts from you

You couldn't have been bitten by a better bug. This hobby is addicting enough to lose sleep over. Read all you can and subscribe to the Treasure Magazines like Western & Eastern Treasures

This is a activity that you can enjoy with your daughter for a long time.... Wait till she claims the first ring you find.

I always love to see that newbie excitement! Welcome and happy hunting!

Welcome, Ken! Yep, you have been bitten...exciting, huh? You're gonna love your Ace, that little thing can find some very nice treasures. Plus, you have a MDing partner and it won't be long, she'll want her own. Good Luck & Happy Hunting and keep us posted of all those finds.

;) RR

Hello Ken, Welcome to the forum & the great hobby of metal detecting...
Sounds like you and your daughter had a great time and that's what it's all about...
Continued Good luck, & Happy hunting!

P.S.> Dig that neat little car...

Welcome to treasure net, and to the hobby. It is great you get to enjoy it with your daughter.

Excellent post Ken, that is a great first day, making some finds in the company and enthusiasm of your daughter. When mine gets a little older, I will show her the ropes. The 250 was an excellent choice, and if you ever run into trouble or need more info, we have posted quite a bit about the 250. Be sure to tape the first few inches of the cord straight up and secure to the shaft to avoid falsing and chatter. Congrats on the finds!

Welcome to the family both of you! Tell your daughter that is one mighty fine car she got! You got bit alright....and it only gets better.....er worse.....ummmm okay okay......it is terminal! You can never be cured! But you are in good company! ;)

Won't be long before your posting I got bitten by a spider, and ants. Here's a tip wear gloves! You never mentioned how old your daughter is, we like to know the little details. Only my 4yr old will hunt with me the rest roll there eyes and move to the other side of the park claiming they don't know who I am. Congrats on your first time out you did better than most of us on our first time. I love my ace also, although I now also have a 2500 that weights a ton. I still grab the ace to hit parks.

Snipping conducted.

If your MD gets too heavy to handle, you could get a harness like the guy in the picture on the right of this page:
http://www.husqvarna.ca/node1541.asp

I got my hands on one of these saws and 3 of the harnesses. I've used the saw for hours at a time and hardly noticed it with this style of harness. I think its called a "duo balance 55" which can be seen here:
http://www.husqvarna.ca/?url=/node2177.asp?cid=211,212,213,214,288&frames=false

The saw weighs in at about 25 pounds with a full tank of fuel, so using it for an MD would be like carrying almost nothing. I'm going to be selling the saw and 1 of the harnesses, but I'll keep the others for my MD.

Hello Ken.

You're among a good support group, here. We'll get you through this.

Thanks everyone for the support and warm welcome....

I guess I am going to have cabin fever for a little while seeing that we are finally getting some rain down here in FLA. Finally.....

Wait, the coil is waterproof right??? Hmm.. ;)

My daughter is 8 years old. Her older brother is 10. He didn't seem as interested in it at first until we started pulling quarters out of the ground. Then, all of a sudden his interest perked up...This is fine with me, the way I see it is as long as they’re with me, that means less digging that I have to do... ;D

Thanks again all...

Ken

Thanks functional, I did end up getting a harness. I just forgot to take it with me the last time out, I swear I will not forget again.

Welcome and this is our way of throwing you a party! Nice finds for a newbie and just wait, they will get better. Monty
