I Think it's Gold?

I have a Whites Goldmaster v/sat found this the other day. My v/sat made a different sound on this rock which i believe it to me Magnetite, normaly it will sound tone a Bong Bong type sound but this one was more the Zip Zip sound picked it up. Got home broke it into this is what i found. Gold has been found in my area early 1920"s Southeastern Ohio Yes Ohio lol. Did the porcelian Test left a Gold Streak, took a peace to the Pawn shop did a Acid test on it nothing happened. It does not sparkle just shines under the light. Also has a smooth feel to it.

Re: I Think it's Gold?

Is it magnetic?? Magnetite will be strongly magnetic.

Look at it in light, then cover it in the shadow from your hand, does it change colour or seem less "shiny"?

Can you scratch it with a knife?

The color stays the same, I took a knife to one section and scraped it on white paper, looks like gold sand then i mashed it left gold color on the paper, real fine.

Not gold,sounds like mica?

Re: I Think it's Gold?

if you crush it & pan it any gold will go to the bottom of the pan
if it is mica a fresh break surface will age to black then that golden color in a couple of weeks
I had an assay run on similar mica & was 20% silicon, 11% aluminum, 5% iron
a strong magnet will draw a small percentage of crushed powder (black)

also i hear if you use sand paper fools gold comes off as black and gold comes off as gold.

remember one of the properties of gold is it is very malleable so you can hit it and it wont fracture or break but only bend. Some places even beat gold into very thing flakes and put them on food. ew.
