I found this bottle sticking up in The dirt. Not to far away from a tenant farmhouse built in The early 1900s. Found this bottle sticking out of The dirt on the side of the outhouse of this early 1900s tenant farmhouse. In picture 4 which is the bottom of the bottle it says MENTHOLATUM REG. TRADE MARK anyone CAN please tell me the history of this trade Mark please. Also please tell me when this bottle was produced or made? 20210128_141012.webp20210128_141021.webp20210128_141049.webp20210128_141055.webp20210128_141238.webp20210128_141244.webp

It is similar to Vicks vapor rub or petroleum jelly. Milk glass, from about 1910 time frame.

Mentholatum was rub that used vapors to help open up nasal passages and help a person to breath easier when cold, etc. plug up those passages. Like villagenut said, like Vicks VapoRub.

Pics of the same bottle even!

The ‘MENTHOLATUM’ trademark was registered on 21 November 1905 on behalf of Yucca Co., The Corporation Kansas, at 1209, 1211 and 1213 East Douglass Avenue, Wichita, Kansas. The registration covered “a salve for external application in the treatment of inflammations and eruptions of the skin and mucous membrane and in the treatment of croup, asthma, sore throat, pneumonia, catarrh, and like afflictions involving or resulting from congestion”.

It’s still a live trademark today, last renewed in 2015 with the last listed owner (12th owner) as Mentholatum Company, The Corporation Assignee of Delaware, at 707 Sterling Drive, Orchard Park, NY 14127.
