ID help for find please

Just metal found in sandstone.Not sure how or why someone would have fit such a large piece of metal into such a small hole in such a brittle sandstone.
Was hoping someone would know more about sandstone than myself. Which is virtually nothing. Lots of small gold around so I was looking at old river sediment rock samples. Confused.Cheers

What kind of metal is it?

Thanks vhs07. Size. As for metal. I have a goldbug2 and it hits on both normal and iron discriminate. So a mix of metals is my assumption.But mostly iron.Cheers. Also put this in the "todays finds" thread. Thanks
