I found this in the basement of a circa 1790's house that at one time was also a tannery. I've got a couple ideas what it might be but am not sure.
Someone said a spur but I don't think so. The construction of the back cutter is not strong enough.
Which brings us to the other two possibilities:
1. a dough cutter
2. a hide cutter
It's 3-4 inches in length.
I have no idea on the date but it seems ok old. I have found an old compass, 200000000 nails, 6 colonial buttons, a lincoln memorial, several belt buckles and not one blasted coin.

aloha.....remember metal detecting beats dinner with your mother-in-law almost every time...unless she serves pot roast and blueberry pie.
