Id like to hear from users of the SD models.

Re: I'd like to hear from users of the SD models.

Hey IRS!

I use the Minelab SD2100v2 w/stock coil, 14 Coiltek mono, 10" Nuggetshooter and 11" Minelab mono. I've only taken it out a couple times using the 10" Nuggetshooter DD and 14"mono. From what I've noticed thus far this detector is extremely smooth in mineralized soil (Mojave desert, Ca). Though a manual balance machine, once you've got both channels 1 and 2 dialed in you rarely needs to re-ground balance. I haven't found any gold with it yet but again I've only been out twice. But I know that this machine when coupled with the pocket rocket battery system (which I have also) can get extremely good depth (my deepest target thus far was 14"...a pull tab). Some say it will even give the GPs a run for their money. I know one fella who uses it exclusively and is finding gold all the time. I just haven't had it out enough yet to really give much more of a review for you. The detector itself is fairly light for a Minelab, believe it or not, and feels well balanced. I also use black widow headphones with my setup, which are really nice. Since neither I nor most other people don't have $4500 for a GP4000, the 2100v2 will more than suffice for one's immediate gold nugget hunting needs. Wish I could say more but again I need to get out more with it myself.

Thanks for the info Ray. I'd like to hear more as you spend more time, especially about those monster nuggets that I hope you find.

Thanks IRS! I hope I find some monster nuggets too, LOL.

By the way, you're quite a distance from any gold fields. Do you plan on taking a trip or something? Or do you plan on using it on the surf since you're in florida? I'm sure the 2100 would punch deep into the sand, but the problem is there's no discrimination on the machine, and you'd be wasting time digging all sorts of junk metal. A beach PI machine would be much more preferrable if that is the kind of detecting you plan on doing.

I do travel a bit, but not much lately. I very very seldom use any discrimination though. If there is iron or other trash I like to hear it. I find that trash sometimes provides important info.
