I dont know!but it is pretty neat.From some stuff i read,allot of snake motifs were used in the 18th century and earlier. neat find

What does the back side look like? Is there any sign how it was once attached if it was attached, but looks like it anyway....

I see a faint outline of a hole in the right hand flange. Is it in fact a hole filled with dirt, where it was perhaps pinned to something?

No holes in the two shank ends
